Forgive me if this has been asked before. I did a quick search and didn't see any questions about this.
So I recently bought a 2020 Laramie with the rambox option. But it did not include the bed divider/extender that used to come with this option on the 4th gens. For some reason, Ram is no longer including the bed divider with the rambox option. I had to order it from my dealership, and it's a lot more expensive. I also had to buy the mounting hardware for the bed extender. All of this used to be included with the rambox option. Does anyone know why it's no longer included? I have found it to be as useful as the actual boxes in the bed walls.

I saw another thread about this and they quit including it in the package.

Haha...thanks. I figured that out for myself when I bought my truck. I was just curious to see if anyone knows why they stopped including it. I was pretty disappointed to hear that. No one at the dealership even knows much about the rambox, let alone about the divider.

It’s unfortunate that FCA changed the Rambox pkg. I find the bed divider very useful.
For some reason now, you can get the Rambox option at a cost of $995.00, which is less cost up front. But you also must order the Bed Utility Group at $845 to get the tie downs, bed divider, etc.

Everyone I just looked at with ram boxes had the bed utility group too, but it is not a required option. Most of the trucks had the divider in the back floor board for safe keeping. Mine was missing the divider, but when I mentioned it they ordered me one. It is listed as included with my truck on mymopar. The dealership feels like it dissapeared off the lot. I would possibly blame a sales guy grabbing it to fix another deal. I'm pretty sure it was installed the week before I got it.

This is my suspicion too, as far as yours goes. I test drove a 2019 with the rambox option back in June. It did not have the divider. Sales guy said he didn't know why it was missing, but we could just grab one from another truck. I let him know that's not acceptable. First of all, it would cheat another buyer out of it. Also, I would have had to re-key it so it could be locked. And lastly, the truck I was looking at didn't have the hardware needed to use the divider as a bed extender.

Funny thing for me was when the dealership was looking for the bed extender mounting hardware, they couldn't find it in their "book". I suggested he look up 2018 model year, and he found them. I had them order those, and they work perfectly on my 2020.

Yea apparently the bed extender function has been removed as a factory option on the ram box models. Something about DOT regulations with visibility of taillight from certain angles. This change came after 2019 models were shipping they made the dealerships modify the already shipped models to remove the function. Glad to hear I just need to order the right parts for a 2018 to make it work again.

That's all I had to do to get it to work. Before I had the 2018 hardware I tested it by mounting my bed extender on a 2017 rambox truck. It fit perfectly. The attachment points for the hardware were there on my truck (covered by plastic plugs), just the mounting hardware was missing. I suspect at some point they will be producing trucks without the attachment points as well. Glad i got mine when I did.

Where's @IRSmart when we need him?
Here I am

in order to get the bed divider anymore (not extender, more on that in a moment), you have to select BOTH the RamBox group AND the rambox bed utility group (which isn’t so much a group as it is...well...the divider).

Fun fact, this is the EXACT same part as the 4th gen’s extender/divider. But, something happened and they’re only marketing it as a divider now, not an extender, and have removed the pegs from the bed that lock it in place as an extender (they’ve done this on the new HD Rams too, which is really odd). Early marketing photos of the 5th gen 1500 showed the divider being used as an extender, and the production trucks even have a block off plate where the pegs were supposed to go. But all mention of the divider being used as an extender in the owners manual has been removed, and the description was changed on mopar’s accessory website. No explanation was given, it’s really weird.

Any way, back to your regularly scheduled moparing

I saw that I could get the divider if I ordered a new truck. I didn't place an order because I found my truck on a dealer lot that was almost exactly what I would have ordered. You know...instant gratification LOL. The sales rep said she could get a bed divider for me so I went ahead with the purchase. One week and $1000 later I have the bed divider. I'm really kicking myself because a couple of years ago I could have bought a divider, with the mounting hardware (pegs as you called them) for $50 from a rancher who only used his truck for hauling hay, and had no use for the divider in his farm truck.

Just got my divider in (mine was missing at purchase) the dealer fixed it right and also ordered me a key cylinder that they key to match the truck. So it is like it was never missing.

Moral of the story if you are unhappy about something mention it the dealer might just fix.

You can buy the cylinder on eBay for like $15.

They changed how the RamBox was optioned to make it cheaper to get just the RamBox. They figured this would get more people The ability to get it.

From the past 2 years of experience with it...it seems the only people who didn't like this idea are the people who owned a 4th Gen and feel they are missing something.

It is kinda the same idea as with the HD. You used to have to pay to upgrade the Cummins and the transmission. Now it is just one price. People who are stuck on the old way immediately thought it was stupid how much they raised the price, until they realized it was actually about the same as before.

As for the bed extender and why the mounts for it are not included and why it was taken from the owners manual.

That is because they were sued that the bed extender blocked the taillights and caused an accident.

But as stated, the work around is to just get the parts for a 2018.

I just keep waiting for the RamBox on an 8 foot bed, but it seems like for the 5th Gen they still haven't decided to offer it in the 6'4 bed

I actually kept my divider from my 2014 Sport and it seems to fit the 2019 just fine.

My 2019 came with one so now I have an extra if anyone needs it. I do not have the key to it but it is currently unlocked.

My 2019 Classic Big Horn has the Ram Box package with the mounting spuds but someone helped themselves to the divider. The dealership order me a new one and had it delivered directly to my house. It did not come with a lock. But I really don't foresee my needing it in the future anyway.

Saw this interesting video from Chrysler covering 2021 Ram Trucks. It shows how to use the Ram Box divider (even though he has it upside down in part of it). They show it being used as a bed extender on classic models so it might just have been an issue with the taillights on the 5th gen trucks since they don't light up the full taillights.

Now I'm just trying to figure out how to remove the lock cylinder from one of the dividers. Got a new one for my truck but didn't come with a key.
