and mind numbing. They were still D and W series all the way til 93. they split up the D/W, the 1st half of them "don't count" even though underneath they are very much the same truck 72-80 and 81-93.

and you look at late 40s/early 50s "pilot house" series trucks, and the "Job Rated" trucks had a Ram ornament too. Bigger than the one on my 85 has
Yes my '49 Job Rated Dodge had the ram's head on it. The ram's head is nothing new.

OK, based on the fact that the ram designation denotes the 1st Gen, shouldn’t it start over with the removal of Dodge in the branding.

My Dodge Forum credentials are used to sign into this "Ram" centric one.
I've had many Dodges over the years and to me my 2016 is just an updated Dodge W 150.
Much nicer cabin but still (thankfully) a Dodge.

Dodge Ram was no different than a Chevy Silverado or a Ford Ranger and so on. Dodge was before Ram so as long as they use the Hemi it'll still be a Dodge to me. Dropping a word from the name changes nothing to me. Patato, potato. Now when they stop using the Mopar Hemi I will stop calling them Dodge Ram and they will be a Ram to me and I'll just start buying older ones that are a Dodge to me.

Back in the day, dodge did make some butt ugly trucks, but the power wagon and ramcharger were kick ass.

I don't get this 1st gen 2nd gen 3rd gen thing?
I have had dodge trucks older than 1981, I think dodge started building trucks in something like 1926. They don't count? I'd love to find a 67-71 model rust free
Manufacturers have always used some form of platform identification for their vehicles as they changed over time. When the platform had significant change, the platform identifier changed as well. Before there was a Sierra or Silverado, GM LD pickup trucks had internal platform names, like AK and Task Force. When the Silverado/Sierra was introduced, even though the platform internal identifier was GMT800, this began the “generation” reference.

When trucks were built under the Dodge name (or Fargo), the internal platform codes for 1972-1993 versions were AD (D100-D300), then BE in 1994 (D100-D300), then BR for regular cab Ram 1500-3500. DNs were Durango’s (1998-2003) and N, AN was Dakota (1987-1996).

Only when the model names became continual, like Silverado or Ram, did the motoring press and us civilians adopt the term “generation,” even though the internal platform codes changed (Ram 4th gens are platform code DS, 5th gens are DT).

Dusty

I like the 03 to 05 headlights...the 06 to 09 make me sick...hahahaha
Agree, I did not like that the headlights were made bigger with more curve on the top in 06. I really liked the 03 lights on my truck.

I think the Stellantis group decided to drop the word Dodge so the people who always wanted a Dodge but didn't because they were worried what their friends would think of them so they changed it to Ram only and make them think they was buying a different brand, seems to have worked!

the (SO CALLED) "1st gen" the only thing ugly about them was the 91-93 grille. Yet the 2012 I just got, I only have to wonder what was going thru the interior designer's mind when they combined black with the color of barf (I think they call it "graystone") and it was approved for production.
I am gonna have to probably remove my door panels this spring and "vinyl dye" them to something more appropriate.
I am currently looking at dash covers and seat covers. the dash cover I am seeing, hang down and only cover about half of the barf colored inset.

on my 2012 even though I cannot find one damn part for it if I look it up as a "Dodge" I have to look it up as a "Ram" even though at the center of my dash there is some kind of small 2nd level "shelf" that plainly says "DODGE" on back wall of this "shelf"

My window sticker and build sheet both say Dodge. Any and everyone can call theirs what they want, mine is a DODGE RAM! As long as it's a HEMI it will be a DODGE! Stellantis didn't invent the HEMI!

The wheels were already in motion to drop the Dodge from the Ram brand while Cerberus was at the helm, before Fiat got involved.

If you look closely, you can actually find the Daimler logo molded on some of the parts on a Ram truck.
