I recently bought a 2012 R/T and don't know what this is underneath my steering wheel. Any ideas?

I think someone else posted this asking what it was awhile ago. It was the only difference his pickup and his brothers. His brother kept beating him.

We figured out it was some sort of dealer alarm. Just unscrew it and stash it under the dash if you want. It does nothing.

It's hardly noticeable, really. Enough that it took me this long to finally try and figure out what it is.

Where did you buy it from? A big or little dealer?

A lot of small dealers add in a device that, if you miss your payment, shuts down the vehicle completely. Which is why I asked. It's possible that's what it is.

I've seen something similar to that before. It was a indicator for rear proximity sensors. But I could be way off.... haha. Time to start following the wires to see where they go...

That is a dealer installed Alarm. If you get under the dash you will be able to see the wire they routed through the firewall to the little horn under the hood.

I was working on my dual battery this weekend and got under there to look for an ignition hot wire and found the worst wiring I have ever seen!!!! I think the guy who installed my alarm (which I didn't pay for so it's not active) was blind or something because it's horrible. I'll edit this later with a pic. I will be spending a good portion of next weekend fixing it. :banghead:

I can't stand things like this. Drill holes in the dash of a $30k truck to do something like that. Surely they could put it somewhere else.

If it is a dealer installed mechanism they should have disclosed that information to you. The dealer i bought mine from informed me off a GPS module installed on mine. They do that just in case they have to locate the vehicle for non payment and the buyer tries to hide it. I have no problem with that because i intend to make every payment, and if someone steals it, it can be located. I don't think dealers are allowed to install mechanisms to shut down vehicles anymore. That has proven to be dangerous for the buyer.

That's strange, if it was on my truck I would damn well know what it did.
