What kind of mileage are you getting with a Hemi and 3.92 gears?

After a number of 'mods' bumpers/lifts, etc a lot of Ram owners over the yrs have grumbled how they're down to 12-13-14mpg...lol (average ..hand calculated). If/when gas hits $4.50 it's going be a bummer. Hopefully it won't but you know how that goes.

Best to hand-calculate your actual daily aver mpg over a month. The way you/she drives. That gives a better picture. Esp before you do the mods. Then compare afterwards. Well known that the trip computer doesn't always get it right. But at least with 3.92's it won't "kill" your fuel consumption as much as numerically lower gears. And of course, you know..you can (and should) go into the 'computer' and change the truck's tire size to one that better matches your new size after you get them installed.
I didn't know that about the computer thanks. I've been a car guy all my life but I only work on old stuff, rarely newer stuff. I already have a few modified vehicles. I don't need another job. I plan on just driving this one, but like to learn. I didn't buy it for mileage obviously but I didn't my want to kill it either.

A decent scan tool can go into the tire section and select from a drop-down list of tire/wheel sizes. That changes the fuel mapping (I suspect) and corrects the speedometer output. If you have a buddy who's a mechanic with an updated scan tool since your tk is pretty new.

Otherwise, A software called AlfaOBD (for Chrysler vehicles/Ram) does almost what the dealer software ($55-60??) does and that can do it. You need an OBD interface cable or OBD bluetooth device like the MX Plus (~$140). And a Secure Gateway Access device (Forget the $$). Um...maybe you already know about that ...or hopefully I'm not feeding too much info at once. You can do some searches on AlfaOBD and tire size adjusting. Or have the dealer change it for whatever they'll charge ya, or a 4x4 accessories shop.

I get about 17 mpg all highway according to the dash and about 11 or 12 mixed driving in my 16 Rebel. I've gotten as high as 11.5 mpg pulling my 7x12 enclosed trailer, all highway. My truck is tuned, so I use a minimum of 89 octane fuel. I use either ethanol-free 90 or 93 pump when I'm towing.

Thanks, I appreciate all the info. I probably won't consider a lift or tires until I wear the new ones out. On a side note my 93 D250 used a factory scan tool called a DRBII and they want like $500 on eBay. Is there anything aftermarket that will also have the same diagnostic features as the DRBII?

Nice truck, congrats! Wonder the mpg would be averaging 70?

Be sure to hand-calculate your mileage at some point in time per, tankful ..for a few times and average out. Fill up at the same pump. It's been well known for yrs, a lot of owners don't achieve what the computer shows... Some do, but many don't. Just sayin'. Cheers

Scary, but you are right. Also some think the tonneau cover on the bed helps but does nothing to benefit mileage at All.

My 2019 5th gen Laramie 4x4 3.92 gears gets 11 to 13 mpg around town and averages 17 to 18 on highway where I drive at 74 to 76 mph. I did manage 19 once when I stayed at 65 mph on the highway.

I have the full tow package on my 2019 RAM including the 3.92 gear ratio. When I pull my 5500 lb Lance trailer I consistently get overall 11.0 mpg on average considering level, uphill and downhills.

I just returned from a 2100 mile road trip. I'd say I averaged 70 to 75 mph (mostly 4 lane highways). Looking at the dash that offers mpg it ran between 18 and 18.3) on those highways that were up and down many hills and curves in PA, KY, TN. BTW: a new 2023 RAPTOR that had 4,000 miles at the start of trip and 6100 upon return home.

I just bought a 2023 Classic Hemi with 3.92 gears.
With my 09 Gen 4, I get 14-16mpg during winter, and 17-20 mpg during the summer. Mostly hilly areas in SW PA, and you can't do anything about that. Have 112K miles on it now. When new, after the 1st 8-10K miles I was getting 15-18 mpg miles winter, and 18-22 summer. The fuel system and engine have been flushed professionally, all gear/transfer case oil renewed, along w/transmission flush at 59K miles and tranny filter and oil changed at 105K miles. But, it is what is is now. Also at 105K, had double platinum plugs put in with new air filter.

Not as good as I did with my 19' Classic HEMI with 3.21 gears ;)

I just bought a new 2023 Classic Warlock with the 3.92's a few weeks ago.

Love the 4th Gens, and while I do notice more fuel consumption, it's not too bad.

At 120KM/H with 3.21's I was at about 1400/1500 rpm's
At 120KM/H with 3.92's I am at about 2000 rpm's

Also, with new engines, they require 5,000 to 6,000 miles to really break in well and settle in before you'll see its optimal fuel economy capabilities.

However, how you drive it also greatly affects your consumption as the 3.92's like to jump off the line like a jack rabbit with a heavier foot.

I'd also recommend a good synthetic oil when you start changing it, and quality fuel, too.
These things also help with efficiency and with longevity of your HEMI as well.
Forgot to mention the truck is a quad cab 4x4, and I always travel speed limit on Hwy at 70 mph, and I'm tacking 2K rpm.

I must be doing something wrong, I bought my 2019 1500 Classic in August. And I've never gotten close to 15 mpg. It's the 5.7 hemi, crew cab and the 3.21. I drive mostly city and I don't think I'm that aggressive of a driver. I've been looking at some sort of bed cover, will that get me up to three mpgs everyone seems to be getting?
