I just bought a 2018 Power Wagon
The check engine light came on this morning, along with the lightning bolt (ETC) warning light and the low fuel light
I have 1/8 of a tank left, but was driving up a steep dirt road to a remote job site

I bought the truck from a dealer on the Mainland, not the local dealer. I don't get along with the local dealer and want to make sure that they are being honest if I need to take the truck in.

What scanner do you guys use for your 6.4L trucks?

You could save some money by stopping at a parts store and having them pull the codes for you.

Thanks!
Today I'm in a pretty remote location with only 1 parts store around unfortunately.
A friend of mine just told me that he has a Bluetooth OBD II tester that I can use.

It's not the cheapest unit but the OBDLink MX is the only brand claimed to be 100% compatible with alfaobd if you ever want to mess with that. Kinda a buy once cry once purchase, it also comes with a decent monitoring app.

Thanks guys!
Hate to sound like a moron.......but
If I got the MX, how would Alpha OBD help me even more?

And......would I be able to reset my Tire Pressure Monitoring system?
I have the transmitters in my rims, but the dashboard says that I have a "Monitoring System Error."

I bought the truck from a Mainland dealer and do not want to use the dealer here for anything that I can fix myself.

Alfaobd lets you tinker with the truck enough to break it of you aren't careful.. There are a few threads here about it.

So now looking at your location I see how your limited to your choice of dealers. But if you have an 18 and its still within warranty, I would be bringing it to the dealer regardless. I wouldn't pay a thing and have them fix it all under warranty.

I just want to see what the code is before I take it to them.
These guys are as sleazy as they get.
I went to them last month, looking to drive a Raptor and a Power Wagon. The guy let me drive the Raptor for 2 minutes, to their other lot, where he tried to sell me a bunch of different Rangers and a King Ranch.
I have bought 4 trucks from them in the last 10 years. Not one person there knows my name. There are only 150,000 residents here......everybody knows everyone
On the last truck I bought from them, I didn't catch it and they added 2 interest points when I wasn't looking.
I was supposed to get $7,500 for my trade in, and 5.5% interest (had bad credit 5 years ago).
They swapped the numbers and I got $5,500 trade in, and 7.500% interest.
It's my fault for falling for it.......I just grazed through the paperwork and saw the same numbers that we had discussed, but didn't see that the numbers were in the wrong places....

Anyway, sorry for the rant. I just want to see what's up with the truck before I take it to them. They always try funny stuff at their service dept. as well.
They get upset when people bring trucks in from the Mainland.
When they mention it, I will say......."I came here, looking to buy a truck. Your salesman, T**** M******z wouldn't let me drive them, so I went elsewhere...."

Yeah I hear you in the dealer BS. The finance guys are always the biggest crook scammers in the game. They always try some BS when you go in their office, like the old shell games on the streets of Manhattan years back. I HATE the car buying process. I do my homework beforehand, visit the dealer on closed hours to walk the lot so im not approached. Then if and only if I want to drive it or see the interior (most of the time they are unlocked though) will I talk to a salesperson. The deal rarely makes it to the paperwork process because I have NO patience for their BS and walk.
The best was one dealer I walked into wearing jeans, sweatshirt and sneakers. 5 salesmen total present, 2 working, 2 who were talking to each other look at me when I walked in and looked away as if I was a joke. The last guys asks if he can help me, and I replied loudly "well since your the ONLY person who asked, absolutely". Bunch of pinky ring wearing, wannabe mobster clown salespeople. That dealer lost a customer and another gained one.
Sorry for my rant now lol

Some dealers are happy to at least appear to be interested in your business, others seem to be full of themselves......pretty sad.
I REALLY hate going to any dealership just because I feel like I'm not in control of the situation and I'm surrounded by muggers......or smuggers :dancingpoop:.......

My Check Engine light went away after driving about 10 miles.
I did purchase the OBDLink MX+ yesterday. It's supposed to be here by Monday or Tuesday.
Still lost in the AlphaOBD forum threads......

I have a cheap odb2 scanner I bought from Amazon for $15 or so to check codes and tell me if the readiness tests are done or not . This last function comes handy when smog time comes.

If you have the odblink Mx you can do the same thing. Download the app in your phone/tablet device and you’re good to go. You don’t have to worry about the alphaobd thing yet though it’s nice to have. I have that as well and have used it in my RAM and Durango.

I know this is an old post, but if anyones still looking for a scanner especially one where the software will last years with no issues I would recommend this scanner. I use it at my shop all the time and never had any problems, it's great and I use it almost every day since it works on every truck that comes in. https://dieselscanners.com/products/diesel-diagnostic-laptop-scanner-tuner-truck-repair
Its $2800!! No one needs that unless its a person like yourself in a shop.
