Cliff Notes version: use the key fob to physically push the start button in if you think the remote battery is dead.

Press the start button using the butt end of your fob. Pretty standard in the industry, not exclusive to Ram.

Asked my service guy at dealer about this when I bought my '15. You can use the dead remote, just has to be right against the start button and it will work.

I also keep a bulk pack of those CR batteries around, and change them in all of my remotes at yearly inspection time, so I should (hopefully) never need to deal with a dead remote!
