Huge benefit to synthetic, read the synthetic thread in this forum, all the information you need there. How I was introduced to synthetic is a long story, but bottom line I was testing a family members oil after 5k miles and it was still light amber. I said she must be mistaken the oil was still clean and she didn't need a change, and she pointed to the oil change sticker in the window and she hadn't changed it since. She used synthetic, I have been using it since. Plus better wear protection, it is the way to go.

Its your engine you can never be too careful. I use Mobil 1 full synthetic and a good filter (wix or k&n) and have had no probs.

I just filled up with amsoil. Price is fairly close to RP. But amsoil, RP, and redline are all great oils. Definitely not overkill.

My 3 best right here.

+1 mobil 1 full synth.

I really don't research or know the differences in the brands. Just always used mobil 1 synth with no problems in my other rides.

If you plan to run extended intervals then pick up the top 3 synthetics listed above. M1 is not really made to run extended intervals and does poorly in tests I have seen. They do change there formula fairly often so who knows. In tests I have seen there are few always on top. Amsoil, RP and Redline. I have heard sheafers is up there too but have not seen tests. If I am running local stuff and not Ams I use Valvoline personally never had a tick or engine issue where as with M1 I feel engine is noisier than with any other oil.

From a person that works at an oil change place and has seen quite a bit in this aspect, yes synthetics are very beneficial and would run it or at least synthetic blends. I do however think royal purple is a little much, very pricey and is mainly designed for vehicles running at high rpms for long periods of time and would say you don't need to go that far unless you do a lot of high speed cruising 70+ or doing a lot of towing because you run lower gears at higher rpms when you tow.

I read occasionally over on bobistheoilguy forums and yep, Mobil 1 doesn't test well for the most part. Based on what I've read over there I now run Castrol Edge Titanium. About the same price as Mobil 1 but tests much better. It's good stuff.

To add to the benefits outlined in the posts above, the cold weather start characteristics of Syn oil are a major factor if you live in a cold climate.
I have used syn oil in my car since its 1st oil change and that engine has been to hell and back (aggressive daily drive, years of Solo II auto cross), and still runs like the day I got it. Cheap insurance if you ask me.
As for brand? We can each spout of favorites (AMSOIL!!) but you have to feel comfortable with what you buy.

guess i need to actually do some research instead of showing brand loyalty. i think it started out that it was the only local oil i could find for the wet clutches on my bikes.

What kind of oil does the dealer use? Is it any good? The reason I ask is I get free oil changes every 3750 miles for 7 years or 60k miles.

Is the grade system the same between synthetic and conventional? As in is conventional 10w 30 the same as synthetic 10w 30?

Well i went with RP, i just bought a case of it @ $180.00CAD @ lordco plus 2 more Q for 2 oil changes,

i ended up buy 2 K&N oil filters so im stocked for the next change.
the guy at lordco said the K&N Filters are 1 of the best out there for Syn Oil.
i notice the knock i had using valvoline is gone.

and i also installed my airlift 1000 well i was at it.:driver: ready for camping now.

EDIT. they did'nt have AMSOIL i had to order it in at a stupid price.

Per the owners manual they want you to use a 5w 20 API certified oil. Not all syn oils are API certified but Amsoil XL 5w20 is....I've used it in my truck for the last 20k miles with no problems changing at 7-7.5k intervals, even though it's good for 10k.
