What kind of oil does the dealer use? Is it any good? The reason I ask is I get free oil changes every 3750 miles for 7 years or 60k miles.

The dealer uses cheap junky oil, because they are in the car selling business, not the I want this truck to last two decades business. The dealer wants you to buy a new truck ever 4 to 6 years, they make nothing if you have a truck that lasts 2 decades.

That still is a good benefit, I would add BG MOA after your change. Google it and watch youtube, it is a friction modifier and you cant get two metal surfaces to seize if you try when it is treated with it. Next best thing to running pure synthetic is running BG MOA.

I got a couple youtube links on BG MOA check it

MOA treated engine running when dropping the oil pan

BG MOA makes bearing seize proof

Car engine without BG MOA seizing in 7 minutes.

BG MOA neutralizes sulfuric acid.

I buy this stuff by the case and use it even with my Redline oil. I used to use lubro Moly until I found BG MOA. Everything a growing boy needs.

Thanks, I'll look into that. I hate to give up free oil changes, I've always done them myself and run full synthetic. They really wanted to make the deal on my truck and threw that in for free.

Has anyone tried taking your own oil to the dealer and saying, here I want you to use this oil in my vehicle? I wonder if that would work since you have a bunch of free oil changes.....

Kinda defeats the purpose of free oil changes. I'd just do it myself then and save from having to go to the dealer.

Is the grade system the same between synthetic and conventional? As in is conventional 10w 30 the same as synthetic 10w 30?

Yes but in cold weather synthetic will stay more consistent because of the way it does not thicken when cold as much or at all. Remember first number you can run any number. I.e. 0W instead of 5W and 10w. This will make biggest difference on startup because it will be thinner then when warmed up it is still 20 weight oil. I believe it really helps cold startup and a little better fuel economy. .

Never had any probs with Mobil 1 but maybe need to do some research or just go with the proven Amsoil or Royal P

FREE oil changes for them = they get your truck every 7k and get to try and sell you something you "need".

I've had 3 oil changes so far and they haven't said a word to me. They just changed the oil and I left. I also have free inspection. Just had the inspection done with my last oil change and they put a sticker on and I left. I can't really complain about my dealer right now.

i have worked at a dodge dealership a few yrs back, and i can tell ya that the inspection list means . tech pours coffee, looks at snap on book, and then says you need at least 1 of the services on the list. 90% of the time. then gets paid .20/100

i wouldn't trust the dealerships to change a light bulb.
