Update: just got my truck back from the dealer today. They told me that I have two lower ball joints bad and one inner tire rod end bad.all very reasonable, what shocked me was they told me the repair would cost $1700??? Now, I do have an extended warranty to cover all but my $100 deductible..but damn..that's the craziest cost I've heard for that repair. I'm hoping I heard him wrong on the phone and it was actually $700. Either way, come early next week I'll be riding right with no wandering across the road.

If I was to speculate, they are charging you full book time of about 2 hours each for the ball joints, and hour for the tie rod and probably another hour for the alignment that will be needed. That is close to 6 hours labor. Add in "shop supplies" and full retail on the mopar parts, it adds up quick.

What is their hourly shop rate?

They have a rate of $95 or maybe $100/hr.

68k miles doesn't seem like a lot for all those front end parts to already need replacing.

Yeah, you are getting ***** then. That is actually on the low side for most dealer shop rates. Around me it is close to $180/hr.

If you are mechanically inclined, probably could do it yourself for less than $500 and that is buying a u-joint press tool kit.

I was thinking the same thing. Previous owner might have been a tad rough with it

Oh for sure if I didn't have a warranty I'd be going to my usual mechanic who quoted me about $500...but this will only cost me $100 deductible.. I just thought the quoted price was crazy.

So I Just picked up my truck.. And got hit with a $519 bill after my warranty.. Total job cost $2200.. They replaced both lower control arms, left inner tie rod end. They claim they went through 7 sawsall blades getting my bolts off. Because of the type of warranty I have I was charged for all the bolts.. $189 worth of parts. Complete b.s...I wouldn't be as upset if I had been keep in the loop about what was happening. When I dropped it off we discussed my $100 deductible puts the possibility of $150 for parts and labor. So my bill was twice the amount I expected. Why not just replace the ball joints and not deal with the control arm. Is it common for dodge to replace control arms for ball joint issues?

it's a 3 year 36k mile bumper to bumper extended warranty. Pays directly to any ASC certified mechanic. This warranty covers parts and labor BUT didn't cover hardware.. So all of the bolts needed to replace the two lower control arms were not covered. Since ride include the cam bolts at $22+ rack cost me nearly $90 alone. All bolts plus the labor to get them off was all on me. Dealer said they had to cut them all. So basically, I got stuck with the deductible, 2.5 hours of labor and parts totaling $519...warranty paid over $1700.
