Hello! I drive a 2004 Ram 1500, hemi 5.7. I recently noticed a hose dragging on the ground under the truck. Not happy about it, to say the least! And, I have no idea what it's for. I've attached a pic of the hose. It's wound up so it won't drag on the ground. (if you're facing the rear of the truck, it's attached to what I believe is the axle on the left hand side). Sorry, I'm no mechanic and don't know most of the terms. I'm just hoping I can drive with this until Saturday, when I can take it to the garage. Unless, of course, there's a quick and easy fix! Thanks so much for any help you may give.

Looks like the vent hose for the axle housing.

I had a lady pull into work and asked me if I knew what that was.. She drove a 02-05 dodge ram and some hose looking thing was hanging down by her rear differential. A guy from our garage came and looked at it and just tucked it up underneath there and said it was fine... Said it was some sort of rear differential breather? If I remember correctly ..

Not sure if he was right or if it's the same thing you see on your truck but thought I'd share!

Once you figure it out make sure to let us know , I'm curious to exactly what it is.

Differential housing vent hose, that usually is attached (clamped) to the cross member above the differential. It should have a plastic fitting in the end of the hose to keep water and dirt out.

Haha, I have the same hose hanging. Couldn't find anywhere for it to go.

If you climb under the truck to take the picture why not slide a little further and actually put your hands on it and find out what it is connected to. With that said, its a vent hose. Take a wire tie and fit it up out of the way.

mine has drug the road and the piece in the end of the hose is missing what is it called and how do I get another to replace it?

Went to local parts house and they had no idea what it was or what the piece in the end of the hose might be, so they were no help.

If I can ask for a specific part maybe thery can find me one? My truck is a 2012 2500 4wd diesel. Thanks Jeff

Just get any hose that will fit the ends on it. I believe you can cut the plastic end off, and press it into the new hose. That is just there so water doesn't go in from splashes and stuff. It is vent for expansion and contraction of air in the axle tube.
