The absolute lowest temp I have ever seen and experienced was maybe 1984 or '85? We got to -8F for the daily high temp for about a week. Not a whole lot of wind but it still hurt my lungs just to inhale.

I would not want to live in low temps like that unless I grew up with it and knew how to handle that kind of weather. It seems like life on another planet. :oops:

You are like 100 miles east of my older kid, who just retired and moved there this summer. Wonder how he likes the weather, lol.

The great Snow Blow of 2021, we saw -5F here in the middle of TX. Heck, most of the state closed down for 4-5 days, between temps and snow/ice/power/water issues.

I grew up here, winter-camping, sleeping in snow forts, but the cold is no fun as I get older.

In the '80s and '90s, whitewater kayaking in the winter was a favourite hobby.
The buzz of surfing a big standing wave while dodging volkswagen-sized ice burgs was a blast.

Then, in the early 2000's, scuba diving under the ice was always fun, but after about 10 years, it wasn't fun anymore.

I still wear shorts for the 13-minute drive to the GF's house, or while fetching firewood from the woodshed, but it has to be warmer than about -15°C (5°F) -17°C (1.4°F).

Update; the temperature was about 3⁰F on the way out tonight, and shorts were still comfy. We both heat with wood. :cool:

Update 2: the temperature while driving home last night was -3° to -5°F. I will add fleece pants for the next experience when it's that fresh. The brief walk in shorts from the barn to the house was frosty.

Kind of like the thought of travelling at 185 kph during the winter, while in anything but an airplane on the tarmac. :cool:

My thoughts also tho only difference be I would be thinking MPH.

I grew up in North Dakota, almost a stones throw from the border, -20F -40F and very very rarely even colder I can tell you there is a reason I now live in sw florida............. lol

Since mine is a high(er) mileage engine I don't get in it too often but sometimes I'll let it rip anyway.

I've seen close to 6000 RPM's on the tach before but I also did see someone posted that some tachs aren't accurate.

Either way I normally do it when merging into interstate traffic from the ramp so at least I've matched traffic speed by the time I'm ready to move over and merge in. Most of the time 5000 is about as far as I let it go, blasts up to 4000-4500 are fine though and those magnaflows sound great when the Hemi is doing it's thing.
You can feel it through the floorboards when it's talking and nothing wrong with that.

Speed-wise I've topped 100 with it before to see how well it goes and it does fine but only once, normally I'm at 80 or less on the interstate since "They" will want to talk to you for sure if you're spotted doing over that speed.

Wow, -40 in Canada....... I looked it up....... -40°C is exactly the same temperature as -40°F, a unique crossover point for the scales.
That is damn cold, brrrrrrrr. :mfr_omg:
Look up -50C as it's not uncommon for Edmonton to be the coldest place on the planet at times,lol. Last winter they had a couple days approaching -55C,and is the reason i don't work in northern Alberta in the winter anymore :Big Laugh:
Edmonton International Airport had pic's posted of their outdoor thermometers last winter,and they were showing -55C,now that's flipping cold ;)

WOT is everyday with me. The sh!tty part in the winter is having to wait for the sh!tbox to warm up first.
Head to the nearest drilling rig and watch the young guys with company trucks,once it starts it's got 2 positions to the skinny pedal,idle and wide open,and it's usually on the floor as soon as it starts whether it's -40 or +30:Big Laugh:
Ain't saying a word,but i might have been one of those young guys 45 years ago,the harder you drove it,the sooner the heater was putting out heat:waytogo::Big Laugh:

I do 185km/h on our Rural Roads , no cops just straight gravel roads with miles of clear view between farmers fields. :peace: Id go faster but my lifted truck starts to feel like its floating at that speed :roflsquared: Its like hydroplaning but on rocks :insane::hat:

Years ago I had my S10 in the same situation.

Since it's a 4.3 truck, it does have some go to it and one day I just had a wild hair up my butt so opened it up and just held it to see just how fast it could go.

Another thing is it's a manual trans so you don't have a slight amount of "Slippage"/inefficency like an automatic trans naturally has, you know if it's doing x RPM at 60, 120 will show approximately double the RPM's because it's mechanically linked to the gearbox and that in turn is the same to the rear wheels of course.

This one turns exactly 2000 RPM's at 60, confirmed when I was running it at 60 in 5th (Everyday use and observation) and that's what the tach (Sun tach) I had in it showed everyday since it was a daily at that time.

One morning I was on the interstate when I opened it up, got up to cruising speed and then let it crawl it's way up to about 4250 RPMs or so - Definitely above 4200 TBH about it because I was checking the tach as I went.
The engine's sound went from a high rev to a low pitched growl, but it was pulling.

Based on what I know about it and the RPM's it was turning, I had it above 130 minimum and I estimated probrably around 135 or so when I got out of it.

That was the only time I ever did that and since it's a high mileage truck now (300K+) it woudn't do that these days without blowing up trying, so I don't and frankly I'm all out of wild hairs to try it again anyway.

Related to that floating feeling - It was like the front wanted to come up because it started feeling light and I knew what was going on with that.

Oh, the idiocy of youth or at least being younger...... :anitoof:

Yes, I'm trying to get specific about various methods of including some Wide-Open-Throttle operation. I think we all realize that it's a good thing once in a while. I guess I'm curious how much, how often and best way to accomplish WITHOUT damaging any parts.

Personally, I don't like to just take off from a start and floor the gas pedal, and then run it up to ~60mph. I think that's a lot of stress and strain, especially on the tranny as it shifts gears. My preferred method is use manual gear selection while driving, set in 3rd gear while cruising at ~25mph and then floor it, running up to ~50mph, then let it decelerate to 25mph, and maybe repeat (if traffic allows). I swear the engine feels a tad smoother after these little outbursts.

If I was regularly doing highway driving, this wouldn't be an issue. However, the vast majority of my driving is local, so I worry about things getting gummed up.

WOT operation of Fords resets the Mass air flow sensor BARO base and has cleared up many complaints about gimpy idle. So, there's that.
I ran some BG 260 into the intake air boot as a mist, on my wife's 2014 Sorento, 3.3 GDI, where the vent hose attaches, and the WOT punch afterwards emitted massive black carbon clouds for a few seconds, then the engine runs oh so smooth, AND the fuel mileage jumps 3-4 MPG.
