LOL, just have to press your luck to make a point, eh? LOL

Now that Rick said the rev limiter is set at 5600 rpm, I need a warm day to disprove that spec.
I'm sure I saw 6000 rpm last year, but maybe not.

Now, I need to know. Thanks, Rick.

.
The factory dash tach is notoriously wrong, you need to have a tuner tied into the truck to get the actual shift rpms . Ma Mopar has the trucks factory limited at 5600,there might be the odd one that'll flash to 5700 before completing the shift, but for the most part, the majority are limited at 5600.
Now if you raise the limiter the skies the limit, lol.
The factory cam is generally good to about 6100 before it starts to nose over hard,so if you're tuning a stock cammed truck, they like the shifts raised to about 6000/6100.

This is a silly thread. There’s nothing macho or smart about running a street-vehicle at ridiculous speeds on public roads for the purpose of thrill.

I was a teenager once, and I’m no saint. But I don’t risk my machine or other people since I’ve grown up.
Yes, I occasionally “punch it” to get into traffic , mostly so that following-cars don’t have to worry if I’ll become an obstacle to them, but sometimes just to “blow out the soot”…. and I admit it’s enjoyable to see this thing accelerate…. but it’s not to attain some completely excessive and very unnecessarily-maintained high speed.
A blown tire on a steer-wheel above 90 mph is life-threatening to the driver and everyone else nearby.
Ok…stepping back off the soap-box….

I didn't start this thread to be 'silly'. It actually has some good info. I am always looking for good tips and tricks to keep my truck running its best.

Now if some of the other guys want to brag and boast about their hi-speed runs, I guess that's forgivable. For legal/moral/ethical purposes, I am going to assume that all of those stories and boasts were simply fictitious. Pay them no mind, we're all little angels here......... :angels2:

Don't try to mess with my thrills and need for speed by throwing facts around.
Nobody likes facts at story time.

I rarely get to rent the local track and line up safety services for my closed-circuit endeavours.

If you're out west, you better be prepared to peg the speedo, the limit is 80 to 85 in a lot of the low populated states, or in areas of low or no development and that's right lane speed. Left lane, let's just say, triple digits is a real thing and not unusual.

I make absolutely certain if I'm going to be exercising my left lane privileges for an extended period of time, I'm not carrying precious cargo and the only person I'm going to hurt is myself.

On ramps, well they are a different story, I use the excuse I'm merging with traffic. Which generally works, until I get the tap on my shoulder from my guardian angel. (Wife)

When the roads look like this, and there's maybe 1 car every hour, you're pretty safe,as long as you have good speed rated tires, and is the reason i run Z rated tires ;)

Yes, I'm trying to get specific about various methods of including some Wide-Open-Throttle operation. I think we all realize that it's a good thing once in a while. I guess I'm curious how much, how often and best way to accomplish WITHOUT damaging any parts.

Personally, I don't like to just take off from a start and floor the gas pedal, and then run it up to ~60mph. I think that's a lot of stress and strain, especially on the tranny as it shifts gears. My preferred method is use manual gear selection while driving, set in 3rd gear while cruising at ~25mph and then floor it, running up to ~50mph, then let it decelerate to 25mph, and maybe repeat (if traffic allows). I swear the engine feels a tad smoother after these little outbursts.

If I was regularly doing highway driving, this wouldn't be an issue. However, the vast majority of my driving is local, so I worry about things getting gummed up.
Let me hear what you guys are doing. :favorites13:
It is a good question, as we have a new engine option if I can call the hurricanes a new engine still. DI Turbo's are very dangerous to wide open throttle from low speeds or a stop. When the engines are new, you will probably get away with it. But, at high tach lspi will just kill your di if you have any carbon or other deposits in /on your valves, so if you par take in this fun activity, consider how important your truck is or isn't to your life. Now, if you have a hemi, never mind boys have at it.

WOT is everyday with me. The sh!tty part in the winter is having to wait for the sh!tbox to warm up first.

How long do you usually have to wait, time/KMs/miles up where you are?

This year so far our daytime highs have been ranging from mid-teens *F
and up, usually to 30-35. But it gets weird...
This coming Wednesday we are forecast to see daytime high of 55F. February and March tend to give us the colder temps and more snow. But it gets weird...

June 1, 2025 we were leaving for a vaca in Cancun, at 04:30 it was 33F outside.
JUNE. Three days later temps were in the mid 90s.

My engine can get up to 190-200F temp within about 5 miles with the trans
lagging about 40 degrees behind for another 10 miles or so. I don't push it either until everything settles at full operating temps.

04 gen 3. With a Cai & dual ex. Pretty much stock. Got the the 545 & 3:55’s. On/off frwy and some city. Wot getting on frwy between 56-5800. Limiter 107 & it holds that. No deceleration. Truck has over 400k miles. Used 5.7 at 160k due to valve seat dropping. Trans got 300k miles before clutch’s were gone. (Trans guy said he ain’t seen one make those miles b4.) I don’t due much wot from a dead stop. Usually start about 30mph going on frwy. I tend to drive it pretty hard. However I still have original alt, starter, egr,& ex manifolds. Stock coils made it to about 350k miles. Oil changes at 7k. Trans at 30k just filter & 6-7 qts. Rear diff at 50-60k. You gotta get some heat in em to burn off that carbon. The stock cats went about the time the valve seat went. Replacement cats been on since then. There was very lil carbon on engine that lost the valve seat at 160k. Also when I run it out I don’t lift I let it shift. My 2 cents

With my 160 T-Stat and Fan that kicks in earlier it takes about 15 minutes to warm up at -20 and a good 10-15km to get up to temperature.

At -40 its 30 minutes of warming up before I can drive off.
