My truck has 2700 miles on it, and I know the first oil change is of course containing all the stuff from the motor breaking in. I'd like to change is as soon as possible, bc I always run Mobil 1 synthetic, but I wanna make sure I do things right with this truck. What is recommended by the factory? Also, at my first oil change, I want to add Bestline, and yes, that stuff is actually pretty good. What have you heard?

The owner's manual doesn't specify any different interval for the first change than the rest. I did my first change at 4K, and have been doing about 5K, or 50% or so on the EVIC, since. I use Penzoil conventional oil for several reasons, not least because it is Chrysler recommended and was the factory fill the truck came with. Look in your manual for the chrysler spec number that the oil is supposed to meet and ensure whatever oil you use has that spec on the label. I don't think all flavors of M1 carry the spec.

I would definitely never use conventional oil again. If you have ever seen the test when they freeze all kinds of conventional vs synthetic, there's no comparison, unless you like your oil in clumps.

Did mine at 6500 km or 60% on the EVIC. Probably gonna switch to synthetic on the next one. I find it interesting how in the USA the recommended interval seems to be 5000 miles and here in Canada it's 5000 kilometres.... Standard cash grab North of the border me thinks.

Edit: dealer recommended intervals...

I shoot for about 1000 miles when I do my first oil change in a new vehicle. I did mine at about 1300 because I was out of town so a little more than I like.

I just did mine today. 3046 miles. I usually do my first at about 1500 and routinely every 3000 miles. but I'm trying to embrace this new extended oil change interval every new vehicle seems to have. I tried to hold out for EVIC to tell me, but I just had to give in today. It bothered me so much that I wouldn't let myself do the first one 1500 miles ago. baby steps I guess. some day, I may even feel comfortable watching my father go 10,000 miles on his Mercedes.

Did my first one at 1000 miles, too - glad I did as I saw lots of "glitter" in it. Did my 2nd oil change at 9000 miles and switch to a magnetic oil plug.

The owners manual for my wife's Audi says oil change at 5k and then every 10k after that. Chrysler doesn't specify anything different for the first oil change though. I wouldn't go longer than 5k. But I sure wouldn't do it at 300 miles. The engine isn't broke in by then.

I thought drain plugs were universally magnetic.. hmmm. I may have to invest in one of those. What size is the plug? I couldn't find it listed in the manual.

I have a question and sorry to hijack the thread. I see that most of you are changing your oil every 5k-6k regardless what the EVIC says. I don't drive my truck much and I am about to turn over 3300 miles and I have had it just about a year. Since I don't drive it much or very far should I still follow the 5k-6k interval or should I be changing it every 6 months? I have not changed it yet and I get my first one free at the dealer.

I'm curious too. I bought it back in August and just passed 4000 miles on mine. I was waiting to hit 5000 but after reading this I am wondering if I should get it taken care of now.

Cheese: since you are already @ the 4K mile mark I would go ahead and take your OCI to 5K... But I would not go beyond that.

Will do. That was my plan initially. Thanks for the advice.

I did mine at 3500 miles, didn't get around to doing it earlier due to time constraints.

Did it at the new Mopar Express Oil Change Lane at the big dealer near me, quite impressed with their set-up. I believe they used Pennzoil Conventional (PYB) unless specified for synthetic (Pennzoil Platinum).

Did my first at 5500 miles. Dealer said 6k but i got anxious and they're doing my first 4 for free. I will do it now every 6k or 6 months whichever comes first. There are a few threads about synthetic or not on this site. Everything i read says plain ol pennzoil yellow bottle conventional and a decent filter are good for 6k miles so that's what I'll be using. Granted, there are better synthetics with synthetic filters that can go 10k or more miles but for my drive style pyb will work.
