I'll be getting mine changed for the first time today at about 5500 miles. Dealer service dept recommended 6k miles. I've read where others change it as soon as 500 miles after the break in period but I went with dealers recommendation. I have 4 free oil changes so I'll be using whatever they put in it for the first couple years then will consider synthetic.

I was a bit conflicted if the factory oil had some additive that helped with break in or not. After talking to a few people the consensus was the engine is mostly broke in when it leaves the factory.

I asked a Pennz oil rep on running the factory oil a little longer before putting in the Pennz Oil Ultra Platinum. He suggested sooner the better so I put it in at 1200 miles.

3500k on factor fill and had it changed. Dealer 1st oil change was free and they replaced with factory stuff. I don't let others touch my vehicles but I heard the factory really cranks down on the oil filters so it's best for the first one to be done at a dealer. Now it's all me. Might just use the yellow bottle or step it up to a quality synthetic with ZZDP additive. I'm really worried about the hemi tick.

I get a nice lifter tapping IF the truck sits for a few days and on first start up for a sec or so and then goes away.

maybe thats the sound i hear? on mine once in a while on start up i hear a rattle sound for like a second then its gone. it did it the first start at the dealer and i talked to several people and even the manager that said it was normal and just new... several other trucks and even deranges did it on the lot i noticed.

I change the first time at 5000 kms, then 8000 kms thereafter with full synthetic. I'm almost at 10,000 kms on this oil though. Maybe after reading this thread I'll do 10,000 km increments instead of 8000.

Wait til indicator states change, other than that, you'd be wasting the oil in there.

Yup. I was at 50% and changed my oil around 4k miles. Could have easily gone longer. Walmart has mobil1 5 qrt jugs for around $25, so that's what Ive usually used in all my vehicles over the years. I'll change it when the evic get under 20% or 7-9k miles from here on out
