My new 2016 RAM 1500 hemi 5.7 has been delivered.

Which oil is inside?

Not sure it is important but the truck has been manufactured in Warren/ USA and it is a Canadian version (however I am not in the coldest part as I am in BC).

The salesman should be able to tell you. if not, then escalate to his boss. someone can pick up the phone and get that info for you.

The engine is assembled in Mexico and then shipped to Warren, Mi and from reading other posts the consensus is that factory fill is conventional Pennzoil.

5W-20. Supposed to used it for the MDS to work properly, but the oil discussion will open up a can of worms. So I'm not touching that subject. My 2016 has 1,500 miles on it now and I will be switching out the PUP 5w-20 on next oil change.

Who cares what the factory fill is? Get that stuff out around 500 miles and put in any 5w20. if you can swing the cost of 7 quarts of synthetic every 5k miles then do it, if not Pennzoil Conv is fine every 3-3500 miles. I dont beleive in running ANY oil over 5k so I personally think its a waste to get a synthetic thats good for 10k miles as your filter is going to deteriorate way before that, and your probobly going to be adding a few quarts in that time frame. Just do conventional every 3k I dont know why people over think this..

My reason is that I am not sure how much oil I will get out of the oil catch can and if much then I will have to add some back.

Mine at 900 miles. Only about an ounce. You won't have to add any oil between oil changes.

When looking at the threads about the OCC the amount is quite different depending on the users and their driving habits. Will see [emoji16]

You can top off with any name brand 5w20 weight oil without issue. Doesn't even need to match synthetic or not with today's oil. The 5w20 oil weight is the important thing. MOPAR, Pennzoil, and Shell Helix are all OK.

Check the dipstick as long as you are in the safe zone you are fine. But you should not have the factory oil in long enough to need to top it off. Nor should you be getting a lot of blow by as you should not be beating on your new truck just yet.

Pennzoil conventional 5W20 is factory fill. The Hemi isn't picky, run what you want with reasonable oil change intervals and it'll keep running smooth!
