Planning on doing 5 and 2. More like 4 1/2 5W20, 1/2 Lubeguard, (2) 5 w30. But that will be next oil change. Right now trying to source
RP 10-48 filters, none except unknown quality like Amazon. None from RP. May have to do Fram FE or full synth. But that is for the future.
Did I see somewhere that RP was getting out of the filter business? Not sure if somebody else is making them or what.

TBH, on their web site they got all types/sizes, just not the 10-48 stock size that fits my 5.7L.

Why not just switch it to all 5W-30,especially if you're running PUP,it's one of the thinner 5W-30's floating around
TBH, just not wanna fight the cel issue. I know it does happen, just how much and/or/why/wtf? etc.,.

I am the unicorn here as my red beast is a driveway princess. HECK, I cannot get PUP here at all. I have to order from the Internet. The PUP they sell is the long lasting/high performance, the PUP ULTRA IS NOT AVAILABLE HERE ANYWHERE. And now I cannot get the filter I want and I sure as chit not wanna order from an unknown quantified person on AMAZON and up with Chinese knock off.

Is the 10-48 the little dinky filter?

Thats what originally was on mine, I used a Fram XG10060.

I found out the larger size XG2 is used on the 5.7 Challengers, etc., so I checked one on my truck, and it fit (some trucks it does not, I'm not sure why). I've since been using the FE2.

PRO TIP:

CHECK THE BOX WHEN YOU BUY THE FE2, I'VE SEEN SEVERAL TIMES NOW WHERE PEOPLE HAVE TAKEN THE FE2 AND SWAPPED AN TG2 INTO THE FE2 BOX.

CHECK ANY FE SERIES FILTER YOU BUY.

I HATE THIEVES.

Some use the Fram XG10575 on theirs, it is skinny like the XG10060, but longer.

YES, and: I had a 20-500 when done last mechanic could not get it in there to fit. Even the head mechanic could not. I have not played with it. Guess when I can do again will look. Gonna get the bigger FRAM FE or XG 100% synthetic as backups if I cannot find a RP from a reliable source and not a knock off.

My '15 is 2wd, I had no issue prefilling the FE2 and getting it up in there.

My Nephew has an '18 Laramie 4wd that's lifted, and the FE2 fits, but no way can you prefill it and get it in there without a mess.

But you can fill it to saturate the media, and pour it off before install. Removing it in his, that'll be a little messy, methinks.

It is what it is.

Not lifted so dire straights ref room. Such a stupid design. If I was doing a lot, driving, towing I would consider remote.

Make sure to use an OE sensor if you decide to replace it. Our Rams are picky when it comes to sensors.

IMO, I would do the oil and filter change first. Then you can see if there's any improvement in the pressure readings before spending the $$ on a sensor.

Agreed. When trying to diagnose a problem try changing just one thing at a time. First put a mechanical gauge on it and get accurate readings on pressure. If the mechanical gauge also says pressure is low, then new filter. See if pressure comes back up and see if code goes away. If not, then new filter and oil. If those don't fix it time to dive deeper.

If the mechanical gauge says pressure is fine, then that would indicate the sensor is the issue. Use OEM sensors.

Unless you can isolate the real cause you may just be spackling over a serious issue.

^^^^^This^^^^^

Checking first with a mechanical gauge is a great idea. Then you will know if the pressure readings agree.

While plowing today the CEL came on. P1524. 2021 5.7: classic. 63,000 miles. Royal purple oil filter with valvoline restore & protect 5w30. I am at about 5,800 miles and 7 month since last oil change. The oil change has been on the to do list. It'd due, but not really overdue. The oil level is fine.

I thought I already had a good filter with RP. I am also already using 5w30.

What am I looking at here? Change the oil and I should be good? Or am I looking at something more?

Thanks.
Below 30 PSI your VVT will disable itself and it will throw a code. This is most likely caused by the drain back valve in the oil filter giving out. I've have only found that Mobile 1 or Factory Oil Filters really protect my 5.7 2500 for a full oil change cycle. I also use Restore and Protect 5W20 and BG 44K at each oil change.

A similar thing happened to my 08 Hemi Ram, found out it was some programming b.s. I took it to the dealership and they were able to correct it with some updated software. It is only available through them. Not very expensive as I recall. I tried a new one sender at first but didn't change anything.

I'm using Pennzoil 5w20 ultra full syn. the WIX XP filter which is supposedly for syn oils / oil pressure at hwy speed is always 56.
I do oil changes every 3,000 miles. Good luck

Had the same issue last year driving through town and CEL came on with that code. Searched and found a guy using the WIX 57899 XP and I've never had it come back. Run 5w30 and change every 5k.

Yes it can if the engine is sludgy. I didn't expect that though with this truck. It only had around 58K on it when I first put in restore & protect. I thought that was pretty low mileage for it to be dirty already but maybe I was wrong. I'll change the oil and filter and see if that fixes it. But I am tempted to just buy a new oil pressure sensor and throw it in.
I've seen sludgy engines that had less miles. It doesn't take a lot of short trips to start to see issues. Unless you physically removed a valve cover you are making an assumption.

Since it'll be easier and less expensive I'd start by replacing the oil filter first. If you find it is the sensor, I'd strongly recommend an OEM part.

Dusty

I'm guessing your Charger was a real early one,as it was only the real early 5.7's prior to 2010 that ever threw a cel for 5W-30.
Read the note at the bottom, this is from the big 700 page printed owners manual for my old 14,that you've probably never seen,as you had to phone to get them.Even Ma Mopar says 5W-30 is okay to use.

Idle pressure is what's important ;) you can get 50 psi with water at hyw speed. so thats not anything to brag about.

I wouldn't run a HEMI on less then 45-50psi at ilde.

Please share how you get 45 and up PSI in a HEMI at idle RPMs?

My 2020 6.4 is always around 29/30 PSI during hot idling.
