I have a '18 2500 Tradesman with the standard headlights. Thanks to an ornery ranch gate this weekend, I am in need of a new passenger side headlight (and chrome grille...lol). Since I have to replace it anyway, I was thinking about upgrading to some better lights, but now I am CONFUSED. There are so many options that my eyes are crossing trying to make sense of them.

So my question is, has anyone done a plug-and-play swap for some decent headlights that don't cost an arm and a leg?

Thanks!

Chad

I have been told multiple times! I agree the quad headlights are so horrid it's practically dangerous!

Replace with a set of top quality projectors with HIDs is the only true solution!
Unfortunately this set up is far from cheap.
My son did this with his 2014 GMC Z71 & the light these put out is amazing!
If I remember right he paid practically $400 a light x2 $800 total.

(I actually think it was closer to $1K but he didn't want me to think he was a full blown **** - spending that much $$$ on lights)!
Honestly I wouldn't care due to you really NEED to see @ night!

I only wish a set of plug & play LEDs would solve the issue but they say the light is not distributed evenly with the Pi$$ poor quality reflector quads.

yeah its in the $800 dollar range for a set of aftermarket projectors and the plug and play harness required. did the upgrade on my last truck along with some HIDs and the difference is huge between the projectors and the quad housing.

Chuber: If you do choose to go in the direction of the projector housing.
One piece of advice!

They are by no means All Created Equal!

Only a few are actually great quality!

So do a lot of research!
Especially if your spending that Stupid amount of $$$$$$$$$.

I'm seriously thinking of just adding top quality LED lighting down below!
As a much cheaper option.
(Nothing Red Neck Looking) All LED lighting will be added in a clean / sleek professional manner.

I'm starting here

This will be my first addition: Yes costly - but these really improve down low visability.

Great design due to all the reflected light is directed down - Not up high into oncoming traffic.

If you have time and patience, build some. They will be superior to any ebay headlight and far superior to factory projectors.

It takes a solid day to build a set, 2 days if you really want to drag it out.

Here's a really simple and cheap alternative. I did this on my 2018 3500 SWD tradesman, big difference.

I’ve done the h9 swap in a couple of trucks. The h11 is 55w and 1350 lumens. The h9 is 65w and 2100 lumens. It makes a huge difference. I have stuck with the Philips h9, it seems to get better reviews than Sylvania or other brands. It’s essentially a high beam bulb, but you can use it in quad housing low beam position because they have a built in glare cap, so you won’t blind oncoming drivers.

You’ll need to modify the h9 slightly, check YouTube but here are a couple of pics.
