Wide tires on good for floatation but they don’t make them wide enough to float my 9000lb truck. Then steering might be a problem. Most m/t tires don’t have much siping which is what makes good snow tires.

Other then sand, bottomless mud or snow so deep you can't reach bottom were is flotation going to help.
And in all three of those you had better have company that can help you.

m/t tires have a much firmer compound than snow tires.the colder it gets, the worse m/t tires perform.

I had a Russian made Lada Niva, back in the 90s. It was a small 4x4 wagon. Had 2 wheel drive, 4 hi, 4 lo, and you could lock the diffs as well as lock the front and rear drive shafts together. It also had four wheel independent suspension. It would go over washboard at 70 miles an hour like it wasn't even there. Because it was so light it was basically like having a quad with a cab on it. Had a 3,000 pound ATV winch on the front, I don't think I ever used it except to recover others and I went some unbelievable places with that little car. One of the toughest and most fun cars to drive I ever owned. It was also dead simple to fix anything on it.

This is not the one I had but looks just like it.

Why I have 3PMSF tires on my truck. For the almost never snow but definite water and mud issues. Then tires saved my bacon in freak 2021 snow storm.

More AWD and 4X4s in the ditch as drivers do not realize how slippery it is till it is to late
Good tires and driving skill make a difference

They aren't any better down here either, lol. I'm glad the roads are like crap up there,as we were supposed to have a couple of the wifes relatives come down for turkey today, and they cancelled because of the driving conditions, that actually made my day,as it leaves more turkey/stuffing etc. for me :waytogo: :Big Laugh:
And pie.

Yesterday I was up town feeling like hell, looked at a sidewalk next to me at a red light and thought about taking a picture, it was pure ice about 3/8" thick, right in front of city hall. No sand or ice melt. People out walking are on the street in places because you can't walk on that crap.
We where at the hospital checking the wife's hip and the fellow on the desk said there where 6 broken hips last few days that he has seen.
He said he also fell feeding a couple horses, but never hurt anything, said the dog acted like it was funny.

Dogs are pretty damn smart, lol. Years ago our old yard dog spotted a cat in the shop yard, and he took off chasing the cat,the old cat headed underneath a truck, and the dog went after him, well the dog was in full tilt high gear mode, and he didn't duck enough, and slammed head first into the side of the truck,it was funny as hell, and i started laughing, the next thing i know, the dog is mad as hell at me for laughing at him,and he started growling at me,needless to say i made a beeline for the back door and didn't waste anytime getting through it,as that dog was mad as hell at me :Big Laugh:

Nah ill stick to my Toyo MTs thank you very much !

Imagine thinking tires make you a better driver :birgits_tiredcoffee
May not make you a better driver but the right equipment fills the gap between how good you think you are and reality and reality is a hard mistress for everyone

I was just in Edmonton for a business trip and watched the Oilers beat the Kraken. Edmonton was just having its first major snowstorm but it meant nothing to us because we're from Northern Manitoba and used to these conditions 6 months of the year. Good tires, Good driving habits are a must

My wife and I did a trip to Alberta in early November for a moose hunt. I had new Goodrich KO3s put on my 2500 4X4. We did not need them for snow or mud, but in the areas where the guide took us there was snow on the ground. We were fortunate to have cold but pleasant weather, and I took a very nice bull moose. People up there were great.

A look at the Roads this morning. It is 8 in the morning and still completely dark, with sunrise an hour from now at 8:51. Temp wise it is fairly warm, at about -10 F with a 20 mph wind.

Pfft! Lift kit, super-wide mud tires, huge Punisher decal, and speed are all that's needed.
Before or after you end up in a bar ditch, ha ha ha

It’s a balmy -20c with a 25km/h wind. Guess I need to fire one of these up and start the day.

this guy knows!

those hakkapeliittas are just getting started at -20c! its seriously impressive, every year when i reinstall my studded nokians how well they work at -20 and lower in all conditions. on hard packed snow and ice at -25 i swear to god its like driving on asphalt. pure ice no problem. freshly fallen snow lets go they eat it up!
