Got a call about 45 minutes ago from the wife. She hit a big piece of debris on the freeway doing about 70mph. She couldn't avoid it due to concrete barriers up on both sides of the freeway because of construction. She said the dash lights started lighting up like fireworks so she pulled into a gas station. I get there and there are fluids all over the ground, coolant and oil at minimum. My mechanic shows up with a tow truck and we start looking and talking. Just from visual, a large jagged piece of flat steel was wedged in the front bottom of the engine and the radiator and oil pan were pierced. He says may have to replace engine depending on what all he finds. Car just turned a year old, 2018 Charger. I hate Houston highways and construction!

Oh crap...Deja vu...Ive gotten 2 of those calls over years...one was a piece of angle iron up through the passenger front floorboard into the seat and the other very similar to your current joy, but just the oil pan, but she drove 10mi further to work...i feel your pain.

Thanks...luckily should be covered by insurance....first thing I told her was to call Geico.

Was just random road debris that may have fallen off a truck or may have been cut off an I beam from freeway construction. No way to pinpoint fault.

She is fine, thanks for asking. She's just mad [emoji23]. Construction around here is ridiculous. The freeway she was on is 2 lanes, no shoulder, and concrete barriers on each side. Just glad she was close to an exit to get off the freeway.

Glad she's ok, car can be fixed, but it could have ended badly for her. Happened to my wife a few years ago, scared the crap out of her!

Here are some pics of the carnage from my mechanic. Busted oil pump, oil pan, and radiator just to start. Wants to put a new engine (V6) in. Said he found new Mopar engines locally and would take 2 days to install. All dependent on what insurance adjustor says or decides. My mechanic wrote up the estimate for $8500 for parts and labor. Thought about asking if I paid the difference if he would drop a Hemi in [emoji38]...

Not sure....for the v6 installed he quoted $8500. I would think for the 345 it should be right around 10k, that's just based off the difference in price of the engines that I googled last night, the 345 was about 1k more. I plan on asking my mechanic tomorrow. Just not sure what if any other changes would be necessary to put the 345 in, I have never had anything even close done to any of my vehicles before. But now that I am pretty much done with bolt ons with my truck, it sure would be nice to have another one to play with!
