mine was going mud running in Georgia and then found one too deep to go forward. I tried to back up and ripped off the plastic front bumper. I lost the air black plastic dam somewhere in the mud and ordered another one. Learned how garbage the front end is unless you have a chrome or aftermarket metal bumper. I actually unbolted the whole thing and hand washed the mud off. Put it back together and it was fine after. Those clips are a pain!

My worst trail damage was a busted front bumper, busted grill, bent frame horn and busted CV. Wont discuss the air bags lol.

That picture hurt my heart.

I do admire your courage.... for putting that electric power steering rack under water.

Theoretically the electric steering rack is designed to get wet and I would hope built well enough to be submerged temporarily during flood situations if need be. My truck has been through the water more times than I care to think about... crushed my front bumper hitting a fallen tree in the water. Couldn’t see the tree. Made it through though. And was actually able to snap everything back together. But now I have a stronger bumper in its place.

I wheel mine pretty hard, always get a few bumps and pin stripes, but this one was the worst by far. Off-camber down hill semi controlled slide. As I was sliding down the hill, a tree went past my window, and I no longer felt the truck listing to the left. When we got to the bottom of the hill, I said to my passenger “welp, we either hit that tree or we didn’t.” Spoiler alert: we did lol there was a knuckle on the tree that BARELY made contact as I drug past it, and it dented the cab, and the bedside. On the same trip I destroyed my skid plate tubes (which are junk on the PW anyway), damaged my rocker, bent my rear bumper upwards on a downward impact, and severely gouged my wheels on rocks. All in all it was about $8k in damages. But what a day lmao

Never did much off-roading but one night me and a few buddies left a bar and I had my 1979 GMC Sierra 1500 short bed. It had a 350 that I recently rebuilt and added a few goodies to it. Had a few in me and hit what looked like a small water hole in lo range with the pedal to the floor. Ended up being pretty deep and it stalled out. My other buddies truck wouldn't pull it out so went back home and the next day my cousin brought his 1984 F250 and another buddy had a brand new 1989 F150. My truck was now in a thin layer of ice but my cousin pulled it out. Turns out I apparently over-revved it and bent a push rod. Next day the truck wouldn't start so had to replace the starter too. Our other buddy with the brand new F150 hit a small hole that was deeper than he thought and ripped his front valance off.

Another night I had a brand new 1990 Chevy S10 Baja. Me and a buddy were bar hopping and decided at 2:00AM to drive to Pittsburgh about 45 minutes away. Coming home about 5:00AM I was sobered up by then but dead tired. Fell asleep headed towards a little curve and woke up right before I went off the road. My buddy was already sleeping but woke up when I yelled. There was a steep ~3' embankment drop off. Went over that and came down pretty hard on the front wheels but never stopped. Turned the wheel and got back on the road and kept going. Those trucks had a factory skid plate under the front bumper and it bent that up right in the center of it but no other damage.

That was back in my dumb days. I do not endorse or encourage drinking and driving and don't even drink anymore but that was my story.

Yikes that looks painful! At least mine was fixable and just cheap plastic. Did you make a claim or just eat that 8k? Those are some nearly rocks!

When I had my 99 5.2 Dodge Dakota Sport I broke a CV axle gunning 4x4 through some mud holes. That was a $850 hassle I had to limp home. Had the choice to either keep 4x4 or not for about $200. I kept the 4x4. That’s truck went on to cost me many thousands more in repairs for years lol

Made an insurance claim. Initially they denied the claim since I was offroad. I challenged the wording in my contract because nowhere does it specifically say that offroad use is excluded. I took it to the MD insurance board and won.
