So today I was washing my truck when I noticed yellow specks all over the hood of it. I tried to used polishing compound, wax, and, bug and tar remover to no avail. The only thing that works is wetting it and then scraping with a finger nail, however this is taking forever. I was thinking maybe rubbing compound or a clay bar would be better. Any thoughts on this? Anyone else have this problem and if so what is it? Truck has never been parked under a tree, I've only had it a month and it only has 600 miles on it. It's a 2015 Express quad cab if that matters.

I tried to take a picture of it but my phone doesn't have the best camera. It could be pollen I guess. All I know is its a pita to get off.

I am not familiar with the level of detailing your asking about so I will differ for someone else to chime in. When I lived in Florida, I would get pollen caked on and baked so it was a PITA to get off. The morning dew and mid sun made it a ***** of a job. Just a lot of careful scratching and waxing.

could be anything you picked up on the road... maybe you went through a stretch of road where they just painted the lines on the road, dried pollen or any number of other things!

My thoughts, especially this time of year, would be lane striping paint. If so, you can see why it stays on the road so long. As for polishing or rubbing compound, I surly would stay away from them. You sure don't want to mess up your finish and that can be easily done with ether of those. Might I suggest a stop at your dealers body shop. They may have something that can remove it without damaging your finish. Just a thought.

I have the same thing on my wifes white 1500. They look like little circular rust spots on the clear. Was recently told it was from rail road tracks or something.

"Rail dust" is fine bits of metal most prominent in rail yards due to metal on metal wear. It also comes from the brakes on every vehicle.

Like others said, don't use rubbing compound. Clay bar would be my choice, and if that doesn't work, take it to a good body/paint shop. They should be able to remove the spots.

I watched a YouTube video just yesterday of a guy removing hard speckles off a truck. It was from over spray from a high school track being refinished. The auto body guy used a razor blade and some type of lubricant what appears to be spray wax but am unsure to scrape the stuff off. He didn't scratch the paint at all which was a surprise to me. You could try something like that?

Here is the video link
It's the first few minuets of the video, then he goes onto a different vehicle to remove spray paint.

Rail dust embeds itself into the fresh soft paint in delivery from the factory. Clay bar, polish then wax.

Easiest way to remove is to clay bar it, rubbing alcohol also works, fastest way is to use windex with a clay bar. My neighbor who has been painting cars for 30 + years told me about the windex and clay bar.

This sounds to me like it could be bee $**t....idk how big these specs are but bees leave a substance all over my truck that sounds exactly like what you're explaining. Only way to get it off is power wash or scrape it with the finger nail. Nasty crap if you ask me.
