Hey guys, just wondering what type of mileage people are getting in comparison to me. I have an 06 megacab 1500, 5.7 hemi. I average about 9 mpg.
Am I doing somethung wrong or is this typical??
Thanks, Dan

I have a 2003 4.7 with 285/70/17, 5 spd, 4x4 with 3.55 gears (regular cab long bed). I get about 11.9 mpg.

I had a 2007 5.7L MegaCan an averaged 11.5 around town, 13.8 - 14.4 on the freeway.

I think you may need to clean the throttle body, check the plugs and put a tuner on it. The Diablosport tuner helped with a mileage improvement.

Lets all remember the mega cab 1500 trucks are actually 2500, 3/4 ton trucks with light duty axles. Alot of extra weight compared to a regular QC in this body style.

For comparison, my 07, 4x4, QC gets 18.0 on my commute to work and back, round trip.
long tubes, air intake, tune, header back custom exhaust.

it'll go 15-16 city, and up to 20 HWY. Driving like an adult of course...(according to the readout display) am i getting less if i hand calculate, probably...but sure as heck not as low as the first few posts

I have a buddy with a GAS 5.7 3/4 ton, and they can barely get it out of single digits.

Thanks guys! All helpful responses. I didn't expect great mileage when I bought it but I did Hope for over 10mpg! I believe the only thing changed on it, prior to me buying it is the exhaust, which now dumps out just behind the cab, talk about loud!!
Looks like I'm going to try some cleaning and New plugs. I will look into tuners when I have the $$!!
Any thoughts on CIA??

Thanks again!

If you still have the factory airbox in it currently i'd just drop in a Green filter. or a KNN. I bought a vararam because it promised all these amazing things, and phenomenal gains, and it was the biggest piece of trash i ever purchased.
I threw it in the weeds last weekend and put on a $65 ebay (spectre) kit just because i needed something to make up for my now absent factory air box. truck actually picked up mpg slightly with the cheapy.

all the KNN's and spectre types are going to pull semi-room temp air from the same spot on the fender. unless you get something top-o the line that has an actual little scoop protruding down. (black plastic tube is better than chrome as it traps less heat) IF, you bother going this route

The tuner will probably help the most in your case (my custom tune did). I have to run 93, but i'm also getting 17-19 MPG out of a 10 year old, 4x4, QC 5.7, where others appear to be getting much less.

My long tubes and custom header back system probably netted me the most MPG gain.

tune helped

both a big $ and cheapo "CAI" were marginal...and just louder

I ordered a k&n filter, and will look for a tuner when I get some $$!

I had a 2007 Megacab with the Hemi as well.

Make sure you change your plugs every 30K miles or when MPG drop. Use STOCK CHAMPION plugs, copper core ONLY.

IF you want to wake the truck up, I did a SuperChips tuner with the transmission shift schedule adjustment. WOW! It felt like I had 200 more horsepower. Was amazing. Made a huge difference doing mountain runs etc. Loved that tune.

These are great trucks. Little under-powered for sure, but fun trucks. I leveled mine with 35" tires and used 4th gen factory 17" wheels, which are VERY LIGHT and helped with the power.

Long tubes are headers. And superchip is a good choice along with diablosport.

I have a hard time believing you get that good of mpg unless your at a constant down hill slope or falling off a cliff. **** I still don't think mine would get 20 when it was stock

To the op i think your only option is shorty headers, I don't believe they make a Longtube for the 3/4 ton hemis but I could be wrong

Before I lifted mine I got 17-18 mpg around town and 22 mpg highway. Now I get 14-15 around town and 18-19 highway.

I'm lucky to get 13.5 around town on my stock 06 RCSB with a superchips tuner (87oct tune and mds disabled) driving conservatively.... is that EVIC MPG blackbeauty? I want that mileage...
