Good to go. Much easier than I thought it would be. What can I expect from the 190° tstat besides slightly cooler temps?

I replaced the timing chain set and oil pump and added an EZ-Drain oil valve over Friday/Saturday. Yeah, that sucked. Had I less miles on the truck, I would've replaced the cam.

I don't think 190 is really cold enough to cause any issues, but 180s can in computer controlled vehicles with stock tunes.

I say that because what most people don't take into account when they change their thermostat temperature is the computer's open loop vs. closed loop functions. Putting a colder thermostat in without changing the temperature in which the computer goes into closed loop can cause some issues in longevity, especially with O2 sensors. When you first start the truck, it runs in open loop which is a base table which does not account for the O2 sensors. It's basically the choke feature. The open loop table is generally pretty rich. Once the computer reaches a set coolant temperature (I do not know what it is in the Ram), the computer switches to closed loop and starts adjusting air/fuel ratios based on the O2 sensor voltages.

Like I said, with a 190 it probably won't be noticeable, but I've seen 180s that have kept the coolant temp below the closed loop operating temperature, so the vehicle runs rich all the time and never goes into closed loop, dumping fuel out the tailpipes and kicking a P0125 code from a $10 thermostat.

Is that an adjustable setting with a superchips 3865?

I'm not really familiar with the standard superchips tuners. I'm not even that familiar with Dodge tuning at all to be honest. I know that it's pretty much hidden in the files and my SCT doesn't allow it to be adjusted by the end user.

What I've seen people do during the winter is to adjust electric fan speeds to allow it to warm up faster to get into closed loop operations faster, but that's for much colder thermostats than you have.

Like I said, I don't think you'll even notice much of a difference down here in the south with a 190. It'll likely take a bit longer to get to full operating temperature but that's mainly a problem for those who live a lot further north than we do. I've just never been a believer in colder thermostats on modern computer controlled vehicles. In my opinion, they don't do anything good for 99% of owners and are throwbacks to years gone by before advanced computers in vehicles. There are only a few circumstances when a cooler thermostat does any good at all.

I actually have a stock thermostat in my Mustang and just adjusted the electric fan settings to get what I needed.

Where does your temp gauge sit, about 1/4" to the left of center on the gauge? Mines right about there

Was there something wrong with your old one or just preventive maintenance?

Got mine put back together and installed the stock tune. No more ticking and no more leaks. Also fixed the passenger's side groundstrap, don't think that would have lasted much longer. Yikes!
