I've owned my truck for 1 week now and I've put approximately 50 miles on it. While I didn't buy it for the awsome fuel mileage, I would still like to be able to get the best out of it that I can. Is there anything that can be done to these engines that will improve mileage? So far the only thing I've done to it is change the oil. I don't have a history on the truck, like when a tune up was last done, but I'm thinking one is probably in order. It's something I usually do when I buy a used vehicle anyway. Is there anything specific that I can do that will help?

A tune up will definitely help along with a clean air filter.

Don't feel too bad I'm getting 10.5mpg. My buddie is getting 14mpg and his is stock which isn't terrible
My solution is to have a 3 mile commute to work. :)

I left on a trip to Texas the first of this month, and I checked my fuel mileage on my 1st two stops, I managed 16.4 MPG & 17.6 MPG @ 75 MPH average. On my way home I checked my last refuel, and I got 22.2 MPG @ 80 MPH average.
I used a hand calculator to arrive at my MPG figures. (2007 SBQC, w/ 5.7 HEMI)

What milage are you getting? Is it bad enough to suggest you need a tune up? Why not pull a plug and see what it looks like? I average 16 in my 3/4 ton on 35's with a 5.7

In the city I'm getting 8-9 mpg. I drove it up north this weekend, about 150 miles. On the way there I was geting about 13mpg & on the way home I got about 16mpg. The only difference is on the way there I was pretty much running directly into the wind & the way home I had a tailwind most of the way.

I'm getting avg. 12.5. I drive a little city but mostly back roads in steep hilly terrain. I can get 16 avg. just on the hwy while doing 75 mph, but right now it needs a good tune up. I've got 110k on it.

If I drive with 87 octane i get like 10 mpg's. i don't use 87 anymore, I usually do a mid grade to premium fill up every other week.

I am curious to know if any of you guys are using any performance mods like intake or a programmer.

MIne is a 2004 QC slt 4x4 with the 5.7 hemi. It has the stupid 20" rims as well, I'm sure the wheel size makes a difference.

I have an 04 qclb with 3.73s (i believe was the tow package gearing) 33" tires on stock rims, a cold air intake, a single in dual out exhaust, and a diablosport tuned for 91 (which is actually better for gas too) and ive gotten as high as 15 on a 150 mile round trip highway drive. Usually i average around 14 depending on how hard i have to drive it (being a volunteer firefighter means you gotta destroy your mpgs every now and then).
