I have a 2003 1500 5.7L Hemi and I haul a horse trailer I don't have any problems except when there is hills and stuff it rpms and I feel sorry for it so I try to rodeo within reasonable range and if it gets to be a long journey I do have access to my moms 1 ton Cummins which obviously doesn't have a problem. But I was thinking maybe an upgrade to a 2500 (gas) might be something for me to consider? What is the difference, body style I know for 1 and then a bigger tank but I do have mine leveled and will be putting in blocks in the rear because with the 35s it squats big time before it didn't stock tires. Its modded though so I think I may be equivalent to a 2500 I don't think they have different horse power or anything just the frame can handle more weight? My trailer is 5,000 lbs max I think without the horse who is 1100 lbs my truck can do 7,000 maxed out if I remember correctly so I am close give or take. Also, I think I'd stick with a 3rd Gen for insurance purposes. Also I do have a programmer for tow haul which I haven't tried I have just stayed on econo since summer. And I haul once or twice a month nothing to heavy.
