Hey everyone, first post here. Hoping some of you might be able to help me out. I have a 2017 ram 1500 outdoorsman, 10,000 kms, 5.7 hemi, 8 speed, 3.92 gears, daystar levelling kit, 5000 lb airlift bags in the back and 295/65R20 toys a/t's. I use this truck for hauling my 5000# 21' travel trailer.
I realize now that I made a mistake putting the 35" toyo's on there, towing mileage is through the roof. Still has power to spare but I'm wondering if I'm going to kill my transmission?
The transmission is making a sound similar to a bad wheel bearing. Trans temp was 92 deg Celsius, makes sound in 5th, noticable loss in power. Noise went away and power returned when transmission down shifted. Only makes the noise when towing pulling hard up a hill.
It did this twice today while pulling long hills in the mountains, was a hot day. I'm going to downsize to a 33" tire, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Is this foreshadowing future transmission problems? Was I just pushing it too hard and have nothing really to worry about?
Coolant temp 93 deg C
Trans temp 92 deg C
Engine oil temp 112 deg C
Is this truck going to die if all I do is haul a trailer with it? I'd like to trade it in for a 2500 but I'll lose my shirt on it. Thanks for any input you might have on this.
