Unfortunately most Nissan car and SUVs use these now. My wife has a 2014 Rogue and it has a CVT. I agree theres a lot riding on that belt. It definitely takes some getting used to.

I like the CVT in my ATV, but drove a little Nissan rental car with it and hated it. What a *************.

Was it a Hemi? What gear ratio?

My 8spd is smooth like butter!
And I don't find it really hunts for gears all that much. A lot less than I thought it would.
Personally I love the damn thing!

Added bonus is that it's made by ZF, which hopefully means it will be longer lasting than a Dodge transmission. We all know it's never been their strongest point.

My 3.21 doesn't hunt for gears at all. The 8 speed is nice for going down hills too , it holds and down shifts gears great.

Yes. I really don't know what people have against the 3.21. I find with the 8 speed it tows my 8000 lb camper just fine. Great gas mileage also. I think they did it right. The best of both worlds. If I need 10,000 lb towing I would have bought a 2500.

Mine doesn't either. Pulls my 22ft Baja quite nicely.

I have the 8 speed, love it so far. It's really smooth and sets that Hemi on fire. I can only speak for mine, but no hunting for gears. 16.4mpg in town and the best on trips 22.8mpg! Just pasted 1700 miles. 5.7, 8 SP, 3.21

8000k on mine, no complaints tows great, honestly I don't think the tow/haul mode makes a difference though. hope they offer the 8spd from the hellcat behind the 6.4 in the heavy duty trucks.

Yeah what tow/haul does is it holds the gears longer and doesn't really let it into the overdrive gear (8th) unless of course it's flat and your load isn't too heavy). You'll also feel that it's easier to accelerate compared to when it's off. You need some good weight behind you to notice it working though. I did with 4000 lbs behind me. I also like to use tow haul when I do my 0-60 ' s because like I mentioned it holds the gears longer and gets you there a tad quicker lol.

?Chryslers new 9 speed is a POS! We have one in my wifes new Cherokee. We bought it new and had it in the dealer 3 times by 4,000 miles for transmission shift issues. This transmission needs to be recalled. Hopefully you guys have better luck with the 8 speed. Also, a Chrysler engineer told me that the tranmission will only go into 9th gear at speeds 115 mph and over? What a crock of ****! I love my Ram but doubt I would buy another Chrysler built product again. They do not stand behind what they build and will not admit to mistakes like the 9 speed ZF transmission. OK, I am done with my rant. Oh, BTW, CVT transmissions are a joke too. Wife had one in a 2013 Altima coupe. Why cant she seem to pick any nice, good-working vehicles??? lol

There are growing pains with everything new. The 8 speed in my wife's grand cherokee had 4 reprogrammings for shifting before it was a year old. Now it is fine though. I just had one of them as a rental last week and I didn't have any shifting issues, it just took some getting used to because it uses different components inside than a standard automatic transmission. What engine does your wife's cherokee have in it? If it is a 4 cylinder you will never see 9th gear, but if it is a 6 cylinder it will shift around 75 or 80.

tow/haul basically makes it hold gears longer when accelerating. when you get a big load you can really tell the difference

Lol, I know what tow/haul is supposed to do, I just can't tell the difference, trans temps are the same shift points are the same, even engine breaking doesn't feel much different. This is with a 28ft enclosed with 6 quads.

Have had my 8 speed for 9 months now and love it. I wasn't sure how I'd like it as I had an 09 with the 6 speed. The shifts were a little firm at first but now it has smoothed right out. I love how it keeps you in the power band as well. I also have 3.92 gears. Another bonus with the 8 speed is the gas mileage. I'm constantly hitting 22-23mpg on the highway. Not too bad for a 6000lb truck!
