Good to know, even at the 99 mark PPU seems to be at the top grade of oils, I was surprised it tested so much higher than the PP syn, since Pennzoil says the main difference is only in cleaning.

This thread cracks me up. It proves the masses will use anything but stock recommended products. If MOPAR went to royal purple folks would hate it. Stick to the factory recommended oil and stop overthinking it. Hahahahaha

No I disagree, it proves there are other viable alternatives other than oem (stock) products.
If you were a car manufacturer, would you offer the best the auto world has to offer on millions of vehicles? If I wanted a profit margin even close to profitable,I wouldn't.
oil ,batteries,tires......even the wiper blades are just enough to get by.......aftermarket products are superior. Just look at the battery, any battery person will tell ya the batteries are not 5 year batteries, they crap out 3-4 years down the road for a reason. Some last longer depending on other factors, heat/cold.

I want nothing more than to use 5w20. This is my third Hemi and it doesn't sound like a brand new motor...far from it. And for the dealer to say it's normal, don't worry. F that.

Well said , these tires are junk as well , LOL My wiper blades dead after 12 mo. ?
Nothing wrong with using better products this is why I use 30wt oil and replaced my UCA'S with non greasable ball joints which have numerous failures reported on 13+ RAMS .
I work for a manufacturer ( not automotive ) and all manufacturers use good not great or the best products, profit margins and residual income profits on spares ...just my opinion.

I've always had my stock- original batteries last a long time, longer than any premium replacement. Even on my plow trucks, stock lasted longest. My factory glass was always superior to replacement windshields. Same for headlamps and other bulbs. Stock brakes lasted longer to. Tires - depended, about 50/50.

To be perfectly Fair: Stricnine-->Why concern yourself with what others are using... Just because You aren't using it does not mean it's wrong...

Maybe-Just Maybe there are other products out there that are far Superior to the Factory {Recommended} not Required Products? -->Very Important wording there...
I myself would rather be Thinking all the time instead of just Following the so called other Masses!

Oh ya I forgot-->Hahahahaha

$43.05 for a 5Qt jug! Really! $36.59 if I subscribe... Ridiculous!

Just goes to show WM is a awesome place to buy Oil! If they stock your flavor!

I believe I saw that the 5w20 PP was a shade under $20 if you subscribe. It's amazing the difference in price.

I noticed tonight at WM when we was getting cold medicine for the wife...

PUP w/pure plus 5W-20 & 30 was $27.65 5qt jug
PP w/pure plus 5w-20 & 30 was $24.57 5qt jug

If you take 6 steps down... All of M1 HM/Reg M1/M1 EP was all the same price...$24.95 for 5qt jug... M1 EP is M1 Flagship! Much better Base Oil and a bit stronger Additive Package... Esp the 0W oils... Low Price for One Dang good Oil!

Lets go back in time a bit. The year 2003.
Ram 1500 hemi owners manual.

eh0idy.jpg

5w30 and :gasp: 10w30! What were they thinking those crazy manufacturers :roflsquared:

Next, the year 2006. The introduction of MDS.

2922ycx.jpg

Now 5w20 is somehow the best choice across all temperature ranges and "improves low temperature starting and vehicle fuel economy"
Im pretty sure that if you took two hemis and put them in the cold room at say -25 celcius, one with PP 5w20 and one PP 5w30 they would both start identically. Remember that 5 is the winter number.
And again the difference in fuel economy of 5w20 vs 5w30 is measured in decimals. It looks good on paper but the consumer will never see it.

Now to 2014

ea60c9.jpg

Now if you are unable to procure 5w20 5w30 is good if it meets fiat standard. Which, at a glance, seems to be euro equivalents of our normal 5w30 syn (valvoline syn power, castrol magnatec, shell helix, et cetra)
It doesn't even say to change it back at the next oil change lol.
Also the hd trucks with the 5.7 and a GCWR of 14000 lbs or more should use 5w30 all the time.

So, in conclusion, you can all use whats on the oil cap if you like but that doesn't mean the engine was designed around 5w20 lol

Thank you for enjoying my presentation :favorites13:

Just throwing this out there, this is what the 2013 owners manual says about oil viscosity and the 5.7 with MDS:

Engine Oil Viscosity
SAE 5W-20 engine oil is recommended for all operating temperatures. This engine oil improves low temperature starting and vehicle fuel economy. The engine oil filler cap also shows the recommended engine oil viscosity for your engine. For information on engine oil filler cap location, refer to “Engine Compartment” in “Maintaining Your Vehicle” for further information.

NOTE:
Vehicles equipped with a 5.7L engine must use SAE 5W-20 oil. Failure to do so may result in improper operation of the Multi-Displacement System (MDS). Refer to “Multi-Displacement System” in “Starting and Operating” for further information.

Lubricants which do not have both the engine oil certification mark and the correct SAE viscosity grade number should not be used.

NOTE:
For 2500/3500 trucks with a 5.7L engine operating under a gross combined weight rating of 14,000 lbs (6 350 kg) or greater, SAE 5W-30 engine oil is recommended for all operating temperatures.

Interesting how they put the note in there about 5w30 being allowed when 5w20 isn't available in the 2014+ owners manuals. I'm assuming it would be fine to run in a 2013 and prior Hemi as I doubt they changed anything major after 2013...

I thought I read some where--->They did not come with the MDS...
Maybe I dreamed this...

I don't believe the 5.7 in the 2500/3500 has MDS but I'm 100% on that...

the larger trucks are gonna suck gas /diesel no matter if it had mds or not, prolly why they don't have it in the first place.

I really don't think it matters much if the 5.7L in the 25 / 3500 have MDS or not due to so many already proving with the MDS 1500s w/ the 5.7 operate just fine and smoother & quieter using a 30wt synthetic oil and a quality synthetic filter .
I would like to hear definitively though on if the 25/3500s have MDS with the 5.7 ...

LOL ! Better check that snow blowers operating manual , cause if it says to use a 20wt oil it's gonna blow more than snow , you should wear protective gear head to toe while operating it LOL !
