Is this really still an issue?

Thanks to bigdawg for reminding me to update this. When I got my truck back I left for vacation a couple days later. Anyways, I wish I could say this completely took care of the noise. I feel like it has helped and is not as noticeable, but I still occasionally hear it from time to time. Next up is to check the body mounts.

Oh and the rack and intermediate shaft were replaced.

Well my truck is being looked at again trying to solve this issue. Ramcares has been amazing!!! They are working with my dealer and trying to get this issue figured out. Never had a company go above and beyond for me like this. Very impressed!! Great to see a company stand behind their product. This issue is very hit and mis. It can do it 5 times in 10 miles or go without doing it for 30 miles. I will post on their findings when I get my truck back.

Ok dealer has had my truck for a week. They have been working with the star team from Ram thanks to Ramcares!!! Originally the dealer thought it was a rack and pinion but they couldn't get the truck to make the popping noise. Ram team didn't think this was the problem so they approved the dealer to drive the truck to get it to make the noise. Well on fri the dealer called and said the truck is finally making the noise and it's somewhere in the body but they aren't sure where. So the saga continues. I sure am glad to have Ramcares working with me on this issue. I doubt we would be at this point without them. I will update again once they get the problem solved.

Ok I got the call Thursday that my truck was ready for pickup. From what the repair order stated is that they ended up loosening the body mounts,motor mounts and trans mount and then retightening them. This solved the problem. I drove it home 35 min and it didn't make the noise. I'm extremely impressed with Ramcares and all the help they provided me. Andrea setup a loaner vehicle and had the star team working with the dealership to fix my problem. Andrea would check in with me periodically and give me an update. My truck was in the dealership 2 times prior to working with Ramcares and nothing got done. I feel without them my truck would not have gotten fixed. Thanks Andrea and your star team for listening to a customer on a hard to find problem and solving it. I never had a company go out of their way to help like this. This is my first Ram and it won't be my last!

Going to bump this thread. I am still having the issue. Ram is under warranty. Has the answer been found yet?

What really made me notice this was driving on a gravel/rutted road. Looking at the intermediate steering shaft while jiggling the steering wheel around exhibits the same noise I am hearing and feeling while driving.

My 2014 that I had had a similar issue where they replaced the intermediate steering shaft. Any one else have this issue on similar driving conditions (gravel/rutted road)? If so I don't see why this is still an issue with Ram, you would think they would have corrected it.

Truck went back in to the dealer today. Got the call this afternoon that both the steering rack and intermediate steering shaft are going to be replaced. Unfortunately, both parts are on back order. Now I know back orders can happen for several reasons but as with my 2014 it seems this may be a more prevalent issue.

I felt the same thing in my 2014 CC Lonestar and also feel it occasionally in my 2016 RCSB Sport.

Over 3000 miles on my truck since the latest repair and no more noise. Problem solved. If your still having this issue and dealer can't fix it get in touch with Ramcares. Without them I don't think my problem would have been solved. It has to do with the body mounts and motor mounts and trans mounts. When they loosened them all up and then retorqued them the problem was solved. The Ram star team worked with my dealer and it took a while to diagnose but they got it. Can't say enough about a company going the extra mile to help a customer out.

Going to bump this thread. So after having my truck in the shop they found that it wasnt the mounts as it was for one of the previous posters. It was a bolt where the center console and steering column and something else connect to the frame. The bolt wasnt tightened properly and it allowed the stuff that was connected to it to travel. They tightened it up and it has corrected the issue. I am also sure this is a really dumbed down explanation but that is what they told me.

Wonder if ramcares will find a fix for the overhead homelink not working. Back in September they replaced the complete unit but it still sometimes fails to transmit when pressing any of the three buttons unless vehicle is rebooted.

a big thing that needs to be fixed, imo, are the manifold bolts cracking and braking.

Hi ,

Yes, after they replaced the complete overhead console I drove back a day or so later kept the engine running and showed him that the button presses didn't indicate any message on evic example transmitting message ... He noted it, and said that they had to now open a case with Chrysler. That was a few months ago. Shutting the truck down and restarting normally makes its work again. I posted a video a while back of the issue also.

Anyone see this in their 2017? I noticed this on a couple occasions but didn't think much of it. Always slow speed with pretty tight turns like parking. I'm going to pay a bit more attention and see for sure.

New to the Forum - came here looking for something else, but noticed that this thread was pointed out in another post about someone having issues with a popping in their steering or suspension so I registered to hopefully get some insight.

I'm having a similiar issue with my 2014 Outdoorsman. I noticed a faint popping noise while parking (combination of a slower turn and breaking) around 12k miles and it gradually got to a point where I could replicate it at the 24k mile mark. Dealer had the truck over 35 days and did a number of repair attempts (new intermediate steering shaft, new lower control arms, test drives with sway bar removed, body mounts removed and as a final repair attempt they loosened the entire front suspension and rocked the truck/retorqued suspension). None of these worked. I was sent home and told by the dealership couldn't do anything more.

I'm approaching the 34k mark and hoping I can find a solution. Just curious if the attached video is what others experience (as far as sound). I noticed I can move my steering wheel fore/aft and it'll pop, while I was cleaning the truck one day. It's a similar sound I hear when I turn - but I can also feel it in the column and floor board. The issue is intermediate but I hear it pretty consistently on my daily commute.

Mine is definitely not that loud! They need to fix whatever that is.
