At first I was kinda bummed because I couldn't tell any difference leaving the shop. Even when I gunned it on the freeway I felt like it was giving less power than my stocker, but after a bit on the road she started pulling like crazy! I had the biggest grin on my face the rest of the drive just slowing down and then gunning it haha. Really happy with this purchase :D

2800 stall? I've heard the TQ accounts for around 10-15% of the stock drivetrain power loss

Glad you are happy with it. Give it a day or so for the computer to learn the new converter, and it is going to scream. Between the converter and tuner, you shouldnt have any trouble spinning those big tires from a dig.

Headers are going to be big as well. Pre-tune you can expect 15-20hp and the same gains in tq. After the tune, all your mods combined are going to work even better together and wake up the beast. You are going to be very happy with your trucks performance in the end.

So what exactly does an aftermarket tq converter do? I have a general idea but not really sure.

From a racing perspective...

The factory converter stalls up to about 2100-2200 rpms. The most common size stall we sell is a 2800. Your truck is making more power at 2800rpms than it is at 2100. When you smash the skinny pedal from a dead stop, your truck is now going to flash up to 2800rpms before moving which is going to make it launch much harder.

From a daily driving perspective...

The factory converter is very innefficient and is a big reason why our trucks have such terrible drivetrain loss. A more efficient aftermarket converter will reduce this drivetrain loss by about 10-15% which in turn puts more power to the wheels. Overall, the truck just runs much smoother and pulls much harder when you bury the gas pedal. Most guys even see a nice bump in mileage once they get over the whole "blow your tires up at every stoplight" phase.

A higher stall converter is 1 of the best mods you can do these trucks, and another plus is that tuning is not required to feel the gains.

Matt, with that kind of post, you should be able to clear your inventory of these lol. I want one! Can't imagine it combined with 4.56 gears and an aftermarket lsd...

It all depends on how you use your truck. If you are strictly a street vehicle, then the 2800 would be a better option. If you tow or take the truck offroad, then the 2600 will be better for your truck.

Each converter is built to spec for your exact truck for the best gains.

hmm mine is an all purpose truck i guess. i use it for towing, off roading, just driving around, or whatever. not necessarily just a street vehicle.

Its a nice Combo especially with the gears and bigger Cam. Just pulled the trigger myself on an Edge 3000 for my LX Wagon but with those the 5.7 flexplate needs to be upgraded as well. Danny.

Isn,t the 4.7's TC of a higher stall anyways? I chose the 2600 cause I Tow but downside is there is a gap created when running a high RPM Cam with it (my experience anyways) so I recommend a low end torque cam if running the 2600. Next week I plan to correct that situation with my truck. Congrats to the Op on a great Mod!
