I know whenever I get to scanning these threads, it's gonna cost me money. This time, it didn't cost me a lot of money, thankfully. I bought the Kicker speaker upgrade (77KICK42), which will replace the dash speakers and the front doors. I was originally only going to buy just the dash speakers, but by the time I find and buy 2 ohm speakers, just to have one left over, buying adapters, it was about the same price as these and I don't have front door speakers. I am not an audiophile, but I think this will be a good enough to make it sound cleaner than what is does. Before I started reading these threads, I didn't know how bad my speakers were. :rockit:

Speakers showed up today. Going to try to get them in tomorrow. I will post my findings, and (try to) get some pics of the install.

Finally got started on this tonight. I will upload pics later, but what I can tell you is that the middle dash speaker is a b**** to get out. Still need to do the door speakers yet.

Sorry this took so long, here are some pics (hopefully)

Backside of the new dash speakers. Kicker upgrade speaker on the left. Literally plug and play. Same size so fitment was not an issue. I was able to literally lift the 2 corner speaker grilles off with my fingernail. The middle speaker was a PITA to get out. Used a small flat blade screwdriver to get the grille off, then I had to make a trip to Sears to get a 7mm swivel socket, because the bolts were so close to the windshield.

Kicker upgrade speaker is on the left

Finished for the evening as it was getting late and dark.

The next part was the part I was the most concerned about. Taking the door panels off of my new truck isn't something I really wanted to do, but I took my time and thankfully, I didn't mess anything up.

Kicker upgrade speaker on the right.

Next, you had to pull this cover off

20140410_202715_zpslcauqshf.jpg

Next, you had to pull out the plastic piece behind the door handle, and take out the controls for the power locks and windows. All the videos and instructions I found said to use a pick to pry up the little round thing to get to the phillips head screw. Mine did not have one of those, instead, I used the smallest flat blade screwdriver I had and pried that entire plate off. Once that was off, I found the phillips head screw and took the rest of the plastic trim off from behind the door handle. Don't know if all 2013's are like that or not. The power locks and power window switches came out relatively easy. Just carefully unplug everything once you have that out.

There were 6 torx screws (size 20) to remove. You will turn them and they will just turn and turn. Use a small flat blade screwdriver to gently pry under them and they will unscrew out. The fastener behind them (sorry, didn't get this detailed with my pics) looked like drywall anchors. Lift the door panel out. I set mine on a towel.

4 screws to remove the speakers, gently pried them from the door, new speakers were a direct plug in, then reverse the entire process.

Much easier job than I thought it would be.

Now, how much difference did it make? It's not any louder, but the dash speakers are much brighter and clearer, and the bass coming from the front door speakers is much more prevalent than before.

So the big question, am I happy with the upgrade so far? Absolutely!

Saving my money for the rear door speakers (77KICK41) and the upgraded amp (77KICK45).

Just ordered a set of dash kicker.

Do you have any advice, since the ohm is not the same as the oem ?

thx

Did you order these from the dealer, or a 3rd party? If they are from a 3rd party and just Kicker brand speakers, you can make your life simpler by getting the adapters from Crutchfield so you don't have to cut into the factory wiring.

If the ohm is higher on the ones you ordered, it is not supposed to be as loud.

Just to be clear, this was an upgrade to the "Premium 9-speaker" system or to the regular audio system?

by the looks of the door panel color, I'd say it's the premium 9 speaker system.

Looks like a longhorn so I assume you have the 9 speaker. I bet these were 100% easier than my Fosgates, which were a pain the but for all 6 speakers. The door come apart so easy its almost comical.

How do the kickers sound?
