Hey Guys it is time for tires for my '14 4WD RAM Express.

I like running AT tires on 4x4 trucks. I really don't have any plans of ever off-roading this thing but I've found over the years that "street" tires are soft and easily punctured by road debris. Over the years my favorite was the old BFG ATs but pricing a set for this truck rang up to $1000. YIKES!!!! And check as I might I could NOT find a tire shop (or online) that offered some kind of good deal. It use to be (almost always) if you were buying a set of 4, it was "Buy 3 get the 4th free" Or Buy a set of 4 get them for XX dollars each (substantial discount). Or even, Buy a set of 4, free mount and balance.
Well, looks like that is a thing of the past. I can't find any kind of deal or discount on BFG ATs. But if I look at other brands, I do see some pretty good deals. One is the Cooper Discoverer RTX, buy 3 get 1 free. A set of these will only set me back by $630 bux instead of a grand.
Any opinion on this Cooper tire?
I really have NO experience on this brand and I've always been gun shy about trying unfamiliar brands because when I did the tires were crap.

Check out Simple Tire ! They offer FREE shipping ! I have used them before , and the prices are usually fair !As for Coopers they used to be good but I have not used them in years so I am of no help. I am sure we have several people here who have used them ! And I believe they were the Discovery ! Also type in Cooper Discover in the search it show a few threads on them.. Also check out reviews online from Tire Rack and others,That is what I do. !SO I will be following to hear what other say :)

Cooper tires have been around for as long as the other majors and their A/T tires have always tested as quite good. Their AT-3 was #1 for a long time.

I am currently running the Falken Wildpeak AT3W and find them to be the best A/T tire I've ever tried, and I have tried them all.

On the cheaper side, Falken Wildpeaks have been popular but longevity is low. The market for tires is usually getting what you paid for in quality, unless you can find a diamond in the rough before they become more popular. Can you live with vibrations or frequent balancing/rotations for the next 40,000+ miles or few years?
That said, my next set in 5K miles will be Nitto G2s.

I got 70k miles out of my Nitto Terra Grapplers. I would recommend them hands down. Decent all around performer too.

Running the Cooper AT3 XLT’s right now and so far I’m of the mind I’ve found my new favorite tire.

I’ve run a bunch of different tires in the past for different reasons but for my DD/Dads taxi I am extremely happy with these Coopers.

I’ve run Toyo MT’s, BFG KMs & KO2’s, Goodyear MT/R’s, Super Swamper SSR’s, Nitto Terra Graps, Courser Master Craft MXT’s, Michelin LTX, and now these Coopers.

Not sure what size you’re looking for so the XLT version might not be available.........

So do you not like your Wildpeaks? I'm looking at some now and plan on getting the 10 ply.

Been a fan of Cooper for a long time. Growing up, lived next to a guy who ran a Cooper dealership, my father used to work for him on Saturdays helping out. We always just went to him for tires. Over many years we have never had a blowout, a bubble, or any other issue. Always felt the value was good. My wifes car has a set of Coopers on it now, and when my RAM needs tires, probably in a few months, it will get the AT3s.

I've got Coopers as well and love them. I went with the more luggy (is that a word) STT Pro's and have no complaints whatsoever.

I'm looking HARD at Cooper Tires because it seems pricing is more reasonable on these than other brands. Most tires stores in my area want $200+ each on my size tire. :(
NTB tire has them on special, can get them for about $160 each. I can't get them from TireRack or SimpleTire for that. That is the Discoverer RTX tire; which looks like is one made by Cooper just for this chain of tire stores. (NTB, Tire Kingdom, etc)

Cooper also makes the Hercules brand, a copy of the Coopers at less cost. The reports have all been positive.

Another vote for the Falken Wildpeak AT3W, best tire I've ever owned and great traction in everything, look awesome and
best riding tire I've ever had. Got 20,000 on them right now and they look barely worn. Worst wearing tires I've ever had
besides mud tires, and also the most leaks and flats were my last set of Coopers.....

Big fan so far of the General Grabber ATX's...

I drive up and down a mountain everyday for work and have found that i destroy tires driving up and down those switchbacks.

The Generals have held up pretty well so far in comparison to the Wildpeaks or KO2's that i have tired.

Just my 2 cents..

On my 01 WJ Grand Cherokee I've had General Grabber AT2 and I was very happy with them. That's why I decided to go with the upgraded version, the ATX.

I had an appointment made at NTB to buy the Coopers a while back because they were about the only thing I found that was reasonably priced that I liked in the 275/60, but they either don't have the tire in 275/65 or the price wasn't good, don't remember which. I kept flip flopping on the decision though. I just couldn't make up my mind. I really wanted the BFGs in a 275/65 but just couldn't rationalize that kind of money for something I'd take off the highway 2 or 3 times a year at most.

I finally ended up with some Nitto Terra Grappler G2s for about $195 per tire on Amazon. I got the 275/65r20 size I wanted and the price wasn't too far off with mounting and balancing at $25 per. I think they are about $20 more now but still not a bad deal. I've had them on the truck for a week. No complaints so far.

What I have is the 48 pound tire, not the 10 ply LT tire in the same size, which I think gets you another 15-20 pounds of tire.
