I remote started my truck tonight, got in truck for a minute, put keys/FOB in console, got out of truck to put something in the bed. When I tried to get back in the truck, it was locked. I tried to use the UConnect app but it would not work, probably due to lack of internet signal. Has this happened to anyone else?

I guess it's always possible I accidentally hit the lock button. I will try to duplicate what I think I did and see what happens.

I tried to duplicate what I did last night. The only way I can see the truck got locked was me hitting the lock button accidentally.

What is a "prox fob"? I just proved I can lock my FOB in the truck.

I’m assuming he’s talking about the proximity fob, for the key-less(push-button) ignition.

That's what I thought he meant. But, ya'll don't listen to him. It is more than possible to lock your FOB in your truck. It seems like he should be right but I proved that theory to be incorrect last night.

Does that include the proximity in the door handles? As in no touching of the remote necessary if the remote is in your pocket, you just touch the handle and it unlocks? I might be wrong, but I believe that was more what Jake was referring to, rather than just the push button start.

All 5th gens now have push button start I believe, but do they all have the proximity handles as well?

I just tried to do this. 2018 Laramie Limited 2500. Keyless with push button start.
Button in off position. Engine off. Remote in center console. Pushed lock button on door, everything locked. Closed door. Immediately unlocked all locks and the horn beeped three quick beeps.

What trim model do you have? Even if you did may have hit the lock button on the door, if you’ve got keyless ignition and/or the passive entry system, you should not be able to lock yourself out of your truck if the key is anywhere inside the cab of the vehicle.

I verified it for another guy on another thread last night with my truck and for both times I tried it, if I try to leave my key in the cab and lock it with the interior door lock, as soon as the door closes it honks two or three times, flashes the four-ways, and unlocks the driver door. Did this twice in a row. However, I did not try this when it was running and nor did I remote start the truck, unlock it, throw the key on the seat and wait to see if the truck relooked itself.

I have however noticed that if I have to go out to my truck to get something out of it that if I forget to lock it back up, it’ll lock itself. But this is with no key in the truck, though.

Figured I oughta add that the only time I’ve ever been able to lock my keys in the truck was if I used the Uconnect app to remote start my truck.

Weird as my wife just told me her door buttons wouldn’t lock her door on her 2018 Grand Cherokee Summit. Nor would they unlock the door when pulling handle. Neither side worked.
So I went into the settings and saw “passive entry” box was not checked. Not sure why as it has always worked passively, locking or unlocking. Put the check in the box, all works as it should.
That being said, while reading the manual on the passive locking system, it does say that pushing the door panel lock button, will unlock the doors. But if you do this process 3 times, it will then lock the fob inside. Haven’t tried it though.

I did read that in another thread on here that if you do that three times that it will lock you out.

Well, that certainly is weird. I wonder if its just one of those things that you’re supposed to make absolutely sure that when you get in after remote starting it, that you’re supposed to immediately push the start button. because yeah, I just verified in mine that if you remote start it, get in and not push the start button, leave the key in and accidentally push the interior lock button on the way out and close the door that it will not unlock the driver door. I coulda just used my app but I just came in the house and grabbed my other key to unlock the truck.

I have a 2019 Laramie with Trim Level 1. Try the remote start with FOB. Open the door, get in, leave keys in console. Get out and lock door with button on door panel and close the door. Wait a couple of minutes and try to get in. Have your spare FOB located far away from you(not 70 miles like me). Let me know what happens. Not sure if opening the tailgate before locking truck had anything to do with this.

I guess I forgot to post my findings earlier but yeah, I found out this afternoon that you are correct. I did the same thing you did and yep, my truck wouldn’t unlock the driver door once I closed it. My guess is because it’s remote started, is why. I never tried it but I just wonder what would happen once the 10 minute timer went up and the truck shut off if it’d let you in after that because the keys in it.

But since we’ve determined that hitting the lock button is what puts you in a bad position so, try not to hit the lock button next time you remote start the truck and have to hop out. Or try to get in the habit of putting your key in your pocket.

I agree. I have since split my keys up to make it easy to put the key FOB in my pocket. I promise I will be making this a habit in the future.

That’s what I did. This is my first vehicle with passive entry and keyless ignition so all I do is just have my house key on the truck fob key ring that always goes in my pocket. I don’t carry a bunch of keys around anyway that would rival a high school janitor but the different keys to the truck- tonneau cover lock, trailer hitch lock, and the post office box key, all go on a separate key ring that stays in the truck.
