Mine lets me get things if I sell other things first...

I’m a bit of a hoarder, lol. I still have my OEM quads and TYC projectors in the garage. Along with 5 golf bags full of clubs and shafts (I build all of my own clubs). I just don’t have the desire to go through the effort of selling anything.

Do you know the dimensions? Also even if the ballast fit you might not be able to get the igniter in. For example, I can, with some tetris skills and patience get a 55w Innovited ballast and igniter in the housing. Although the morimoto xb55 ballast fits but can't get the wiring and igniter in. Alpharex will sell you pre drilled dust caps for $10 shipped. I bought a set because I didn't want to drill through the original covers to run the morimotos and then have them fail

Thanks. I guess it will have to be mounted externally. I don't have a problem cutting my own holes. I built my current set of quads. I finally broke down and couldn't resist the temptation so I have a set of chrome pros otw.

Finally got them in and working. I’ll see tonight if I need to tweak the bulbs around to adjust the output any. I don’t have much of a flat wall in my garage to really check them, plus it’s middle of the day so too much ambient light. Fog lights should show up today hopefully.

That’s about a 30 minute drive or more, I reckon I’ll pass. I’ve already got the tape on my garage door from where they were aligned with the katana, so it should go pretty quick.

Fog lights showed up. Wife and daughter were gonna go shopping and I was gonna swap lights on the truck. Daughter asked if I had plans and wanted me to go, so truck waits. I should get a good run of the lights since I imagine we’ll be out well past dark. Hopefully they’re not aimed too high, lol. Tried my best to aim them according to the tape I used, but since it was so bright outside I’m not sure how close I got it. I reckon I’ll find out if I end up illuminating the car in front of me.

Either I have the worst luck of anyone that’s bought these, or they just aren’t good with HID. Maybe my expectations are just too high. I tweaked, twisted, shimmed, moved them around all I could think of, and I can’t get the hotspot to a functional spot. It’s to the point that at 200’ or so, I can’t even see the cutoff (the angle anyway) on the passenger headlight. There’s a White House when I turn in my neighborhood and when the light shines on it, the passenger side cutoff is just not there.

I’m gonna contact Alpharex and get 2 extra dust covers to replace the ones I drilled, and I think I’m gonna buy a set of the VLED Micro Extreme 5000k H7 LEDs. If they don’t work out, I’ll just go back to the katana and deal with the color. I don't do a ton of dark country road driving (I live just outside of Houston, so I’m mostly in the city), so while I’m not a huge fan, they are at least functional.

Can you post a pic of the current output

Edit.

Here is a pic of mine at 20' your Hotspots should be just to the right of the step up. My driverside is a little off.

For cutoff comparison, the house on the left is about 150'-200' away (the truck is level in the picture but that house is downhill from me)...3fc90556cc589ea57bda882d58434f40.jpg

I don’t have any pics yet, I’ll get some tomorrow morning in the way to work. There’s a brick wall leaving my hood about 50’ across the street, and I’ll get one in the same dark road I used for the pic with the katana, and I’ll post that one too for comparison.

5000k Innovited HIDs low, Hikari Ultra highs.

Camera pictures always look brighter than what my eye can perceive...

So, here are a couple of shots. This is the same dark road on different days, so ambient light is a little different. Also not same spot on the road, but close enough. Also, on the LED pic , my fog lights were on with the headlights. I changed the settings in Alpha to make fog lights LED in anticipation of my new bulbs, and my morimoto LED fogs quit working, so the HID picture does not have the fog lights on. In the picture, the LED looks brighter, but in person and when driving, the HID are far brighter. That gap in light on the HID pic in the lower left corner is because no fog lights. You can see the outline of the same gap in the LED pic, but the fog lights kind of fill it in, so dont take the foreground the immediate side coverage into account, because it is not a fair comparison.

There's also a pic leaving my neighborhood. If I had to guess, I would say the brick wall is 50-60' away. There is a 3 lane road (1 coming, 1 going, and a turn lane), and about 10 feet of grass on each side of the road between me and the wall. You can see the slope of the passenger side cutoff, but there just is no hotspot. That is how the LEDs looked as well. They were bright, they just didnt really put out a hotspot, and to the naked eye kind of faded off in the distance. The HID are definitely brighter and more intense. If I could just fix the hotspot on the passenger side, and get my fog lights working again, I would probably leave them alone. I am planning to pull the Morimoto fogs and install the VLED bulbs and OEM housings today (got 5000k VLED bulbs for the fogs to match color temp of the head lights). If they still dont work, I'll switch the setting back to no for LED fog light in Alpha and see if that fixes it.

For reference, I darkened the exposure on the photos when taking them. I took pics without darkening them first, and for both sets, it literally washes out the road so you just cant really tell anything.

The led's definitely look brighter and seem to have better distance in the pic.

It definitely appears that the driver's Hotspot is OK could be adjusted to the right a touch and the passengers doesn’t seem to have one. I would pull up to a wall or whatever you can so you can see both hot spots and slowly back away to see if the passenger side hot spot drops or just slowly fades away. If it drops then you know the bulb needs to be adjusted up. I'm not sure if it fades away what that means. Could be a bad bulb or the ballast isn't putting out enough power or possibly the optics of the lense are off. Only way to verify that would be putting your led's in the passenger side and do the same thing. If the hot spot is spot on or low than you know the bulb needs to be adjusted, if there is no defined hot spot then most likely the lense is bad.

In the picture, I agree they do seem to project better, but in person, not so much. It could be because of the foreground lighting that isnt really all that visible in the photo, but I see further down the road with the HID. I think if I can fix the hotspot on the passenger side, it will be even better.

I'm still debating just getting the 5000k LED for my headlights as well. They are much less finicky than the HID , and since the bases are fully adjustable, it will be easier to dial them in. But, that's $175 for a bulb I cant find any output shots of.

Which led kit is that? I'm definitely more of a fan of led's then hid's. If I could find a set that fit in the morimoto projectors that are close in output I'd definitely switch. I will agree that once you get the passenger side adjusted I think you'll be happy. I've been dragging my feet on trying to adjust my driverside. It's cold out and I can deal with it for now.

Those are the Katana LEDs. I found them better than Hikari to my eyes. I honestly think it is the color of the bulbs that kills them for me. My eyes process a warmer light better, which is why I'm thinking about the 5000k VLED Micro Extreme. I'm doing some reading now. The only issue I see so far is on their own site. It shows in stock, but the dropdown menu for color shows "due in stock mid march" for both options. I emailed them (yesterday) but havent gotten a response yet since they're not open yet, and it's a holiday so they might not be open at all today.
