I really love the one I’ve got in mine. The only thing I don’t like about it however is now that I pull into my driveway and if I don’t put it in park when I shut the truck off, it’ll put itself into park which, it’s not a bad thing if I still have my original factory knob on there that’s omni-directional but since I put my new knob on there and situated it to where the middle part of the “M” points at whatever gear the transmission in, it throws that off as the internal mechanism resets but the knob doesn’t not....2866b4764009e5488640dda77191a02e.jpg

Not a big deal at all. I got used to it pretty quickly, and I love that it frees up space. Since everything's electronic now, I don't need a big clunky shifter to be able to pretend that it's mechanical. Now when I'm in my wife's Grand Cherokee, her console shifter seems like a pain.
Honestly half the time I don't even look at it. When I'm in park, it's one click over to get to reverse, and all the way over for drive. Then it's all the way to the left for park. I'm sure a lot of luddites out there ******* when highbeams moved from the floorboards to a stalk off the steering column. Time moves on.

The rotary shifter never bothered me. I still miss the floor button for the brights (learned to drive in a 1977 GMC Sierra). Bring it back! lol

I think that the floor switch for high beams is MUCH safer than the column switch. One can just rest their foot on the switch and activate fast and easy and with rapid repetition if desired. The column switch requires more thought and potential hand movements to/from the steering wheel. And how many of us drive with our hands perfectly positioned on the steering wheel most of the time? IMHO.

Thinking about buying a 1500 Classic. Love everything about the truck--except the rotary shifter. Drove me crazy on the test drive.

Did it bother anyone else when you bought yours? How do you feel about it now?

It is a whole lot better than the push button shifter in the Ford Edsel.

Please don't misunderstand, I don't dislike the having the shifter on the dash, I just wish the knob wasn't round. If the knob absolutely must be round, then it should be located at least three miles away from all the other round knobs on the dash! :p[/QUOTE]

Wouldn't that make it hard to reach?

There's a neutral lever under the panel to the left of the steering wheel if it has to go into neutral for towing and you can't use the dial for any reason. You have to pop the panel off to access it.
Okay. Color me stupid. I can’t find any panel there that easily pops off. Can you please point out which one you are speaking of? Thanks. image.jpg

My first experience with a rotatory shifter was in my wife's Chrysler 300. I thought it was really cool, so when I got my 2018 Ram Express, it didn't take too long to adjust. Really pleased with mine.IMG_20200216_135244933.jpg

Should be behind the panel that I circled in green on your picture. That’s where it is at least the fourth GEN’s.09523e745900c7013c2b5f1a8748f3a9.jpg

I have gotten used to it after six months, but what I have not gotten used to is the need to step on the brake to change gears!!! In normal operation, I automatically step on the brake to put it in gear or put it in park, etc. HOWEVER, at the car wash when I get to the end of the wash and the light says it is time to go, the truck is still slowly rolling. I have to hit the brake to drop it into drive and pull out. The "children" they hire to guide you into the wash line seem to think it is funny to line you up nose to tail. I suspect they are hoping for a small bumper bump at the end if they get you close enough together. Annoys me every time.
Mine goes into drive from neutral just fine without touching the brake pedal. I shift into drive while the truck is still rolling doing my best to time it just as the car wash chain releases the tire. Admittedly, the “go” light may not always be lit but I am clear of all of the whirling, blowing mechanics of the car wash when I shift it.

I love mine (‘19 PW). But I read my manual and I cannot find anything about Putting Natasha in neutral without her running. Where is the shifter lockout?

answered by another guy, but it's annoying for sure.

I still prefer the center console shifter. My arm rests on the console and the stick is right there. Besides I have a rotary knob there already with the 2wd/4wdauto/4wd/4wdlow which has been changed to push buttons on yours. Still will always chose the stick on the center console for me given the option--but it wouldnt be a deal breaker by any means. Love RAMS

It makes me nervous on my Chrysler 300, not as much as on my 2013 RAM, as she has a column shifter. On my (already ordered) 2020 Limited, i’m scared i’m gonna hate the shifter because i’m not used to it.

With all the other things inside, I suppose that was all the room left. I haven't gotten used to it yet. I got it 03/19/20 and it doesn't have 500 miles on it yet.

When I first bought mine I kept reaching for the column shifter. Now when I drive my wifes vehicle I reach for the Knob on the dash. I like the knob because on the earlier model 1500 if you pulled the lever into 1st gear it interfered with my leg it was so low. Makes me think back to the Mopars in the 60's with the button shifter which I'm sure only the senior members will recall. I had a 62 Dodge and was used to the buttons and when I bought my 68 Roadrunner the column shifter was hard to get used to.
Yep, my dad had a ‘57 Plymouth with the push button transmission. What I remember about that car besides the wing tail lights was that whenever it rained water or condensation would build up in the carburetor and it would be hard to start. The good old days.

I’ve had my 2019 Ram Laramie 1500 for 18 months and 25k miles now and don’t even think about the rotary gear shift anymore. One of the things I learned early on in a business marketing class years ago was the first reaction people have to change is rejection. Acceptance comes later.

When I bought mine in 2013, the rotary shift with the 8 speed transmission was the only option that I absolutely did not want and at that time only came with 3:21 rears. One of my "must haves" was 3:55's or better. I did not like it from my first test drive with it.

I don’t mind it at all. Took a bit getting used to.

I never understood opening a door to back a trailer, especially a boat trailer. I never had a problem backing a boat and at one time I was launching it 4 or more times a week.

I've really gotten to like it. It's an electrically controlled transmission and all it needs is a switch to operate it. Why not a rotary switch? The only beef I have with the tranny is if I want to back up and I feel the need to crack the driver's door to look at the ground behind me as I back, the truck won't move. Does anyone know if this is a Federally mandated thing? Can it be overridden?
