Can I add 4x4 auto to my Ram?

I don’t drive like a nut. I am wanting to get ahead of the other idiots on the wet roads that are driving up my ass!

Just from reading your posts,it sounds to me,that you like to pull out into fast moving traffic, when it might not be the safest thing to do,especially if you need a full throttle 4X4 launch just to merge.Just saying, and that's from reading your own posts, lol

Most people go the other way and remove their auto 44-44 to install the 'real' 44-45 4wd xfer case.

I would have given you everything you needed for free - I threw it all away about two years ago when I swapped in the 44-45 case.

https://www.ramforum.com/threads/bw-44-44-to-bw-44-45-swap.132570/page-4#post-2171907

MY 19 has the new BW 48-11 case and stuff. They changed the shift points (has 40 different points) and the engagements for the 4 X 4, a lot smoother. But, of course, U still are running a case with clutches.

Auburn Hills, Michigan, March 27, 2018 – BorgWarner debuts its Electro-Mechanical On-Demand (EMOD) transfer case on the 2019 Ram 1500 4x4 pickup truck. Building on BorgWarner’s proven Torque-On-Demand® clutching system, the new EMOD technology delivers faster response and higher torque output for better on- and off-road performance. For automakers, the scalable system offers easy traction calibration and integration for a variety of vehicles, from small SUVs to heavy-duty pickup trucks.

“BorgWarner’s new EMOD transfer case features unmatched clutch control and actuation capabilities,” said Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager, BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems. “BorgWarner has supplied on-demand transfer cases to Ram since 2010. We are proud to introduce our latest advancements in the next-generation Ram 1500.”

The heart of BorgWarner’s new EMOD transfer case is a motor-driven rotational cam mechanism which provides both robust clutch control and range shift function. The active clutch actuation technology delivers higher torque output, linear clutch response and pre-emptive clutch locking torque with zero rear wheel spin. For hill parking, the system offers the capability to hold front/rear locking torque when the ignition is off. In addition, the EMOD transfer case is equipped with BorgWarner’s HY-VO® driveline chain, optimized for high efficiency and durable performance.

if you are leaving a red light who cares what the drivers behind you are doing? If you are pulling out into traffic when it is not safe that is another story.
It should be second nature to switch in and out of 4H. Practice it until it is automatic. should not have to take your eyes off the road.

It’s a matter of neccesity due to limited visibility at some of the intersections in my town. I have to pull out onto a very busy road and there’s a corner to my left blocking the view of oncoming traffic in that direction. Your timing has to be spot on to not get side swiped if you get any wheel spin and loss of acceleration.

Orillia is 31,000 people, not very big,you should be able to find another road or intersection to use that's a little less busy in a city that small.Looks like the majority of the population is over 40,so i can't see traffic being all that bad to deal with.

I don't really think we need to be analyzing whether or not OP needs whatever.

Like it's my opinion that if you can't leave a stoplight on wet pavement without wheelspin because you've deliberately installed a device that amplifies throttle input... uh..

But people are gonna do what they do.

The auto transfer case is fine. People are gonna come up with reasons to complain about it but I'd expect probably 90% of 4wd Rams on the road have the auto case and if they sucked that bad you'd probably hear about it more often than just the odd thread here once in a while.

Well I could drive way out of my way to make you happy but I’d rather just be able to pull out and not spin my tires sometimes if that’s ok? Auto mode exists for reason and I’m someone who would enjoy the feature. All I wanted to know is can it be installed retroactively, not have an assessment of my driving skills. Sheesh!

It would be cheaper to trade your truck for something more suitable to your driving habits.

I don’t wish to trade as I love the upgrades I’ve already done and have no desire to lose all that in a trade. I appreciate the feedback.

I disagree - the push button system is slow, doesn't always respond to a quick push and you have to look to make sure you have the button.
A knob type switch, that was like on my Dakota, is much better in every respect.

I want to switch to that style switch but am not sure if it would work.

Respectfully, it's the stupid people driving too fast that I'm trying to avoid colliding with when pulling out onto the main road. You only have a limited field of view and barely time to pull out before a vehicle is right there. I just want the safety of not spinning my rear tires when it's wet in situations like that.

By the looks of your avatar, your tires probably aren't doing you much good in those situations.Does your truck have a limited slip rear diff,if not, that should be your first project,i'd install at least the factory limited slip unit and go from there.Wouldn't hurt to throw some weight in the back of the box either

I do have some weight in back and my tires are well rated in all conditions. I'm sure there's better options out there. This isn't a situation that happens often but when it does, I don't want to be on the receiving end of a collision because my tires spun and I didn't get into my lane quickly enough.

Drive to Phoenix and you can trade me your T-Case and buttons for mine. I wish I had the case you have and really don't want the 4 Auto t-case.
