My question is, I'm ready to do my first oil change on the 3.6 Pentastar. It just turned 28k miles.

I bought PUP 5w30 a couple of months ago, and have a bottle of Lubegard Bio/Tech.

Should I put in the whole bottle (15 oz), or will half be plenty for 6 quarts? Whatever amount I put in I will subtract the same amount of oil.
Lubegard recommends 3 oz per quart. Our Jeep 3.6 takes 6 quarts so I would throw in the 15 oz bottle.

Thanks. The bottle came in yesterday from Amazon, and I haven't even opened the package yet. Didn't know if it had recommendations, or if people were using different amounts than recommended.

A lot of times I will use less of an additive than needed.

I have used Lubegard products before, and have had great success with them. Their power steering pump treatment will totally quieten a pump that sounds like it needs to go in the trash, and the sound never comes back.

I had an Aerostar van you could hear coming way down the road. Water had drained from the cowl onto the top of the pump, running through the vent in the cap, into the pump.

The fluid was a pink froth, and the noise was horrible. My son was driving it, so I don't know how long it was like that.

Drained and flushed the pump and rack, then put new fluid in. Didn't sound much better. Put Lubegard Power Steering Treatment in, drove it 15 minutes, and the pump was quieter than it had been in all the years I owned it.

I kept it a few more years, sold it to my BIL who kept it for several years, who gave it to his son who drive it about three years, who sold it to his friend that kept it a long time. The original PS pump was still on it as far as I know.

Well.. regarding the HPL oil that I got.
View attachment 514218
I contacted HPL asking them for how much moly is in their oil. I also made a query to David from High Performance Lubrications on BITOG forums.
David speculated that the formula didn't contain as much as the formula they ship themselves, but it was up that and stated that this was an excellent oil of choice for my application.
Erik from HPL (hploil.com) came back to me the following day and said, "Regarding the PPM of Moly and ZDDP, it's approximately: Moly- 1700 ppm, ZDDM-900 ppm."

Both went on further in their communications said that they would have to get back to their offices in order to give me the correct numbers. Above were rough estimates.
get a uoa or voa, everything else is a nice story, just say'n. It is nice to see voa's verify what manu's say, it is equally informative when they disprove what someone says.

I'm still trying to figure out how this compares to Redline 5W-30. As per prior post they won't tell me the Moly content but it has 1800+ ppm zinc and other wear additives. It is probably not a safe oil to go adding Lubegard to. The specs quoted like Viscosity are close to Redline 5W-30 but not all specs are quoted to compare. It is a good oil for me as I can buy it in 20L containers for $AUD255 delivered which is about $USD175. 3.785L (4qrt) of Redline is about $AUD120 plus delivery. The added bonus is it is claimed as MS-6395 compliant and they state is recommended for vehicles requiring 5W-20 from the manufacturer.

Did you ask them if it has any moly?
Zinc was the older antiwear additive back before roller lifters. When roller lifters came out near same time exhaust catalysts did, zinc went way down. If memory serves, because zinc coats catalysts and inactivated them. Roller lifters didn't need zinc.

Then came Hemi Gen III with marginal lubrication that we know moly helps. The key antiwear agent for these motors seems to be moly, not zinc. Penrite Oil looks to be an old time racing oil before moly additives?

I believe its the sulfur compund in zddp that coats the catalysts which explains the rotten egg smell when a 2001 ford taurus with 231,000 miles flys past you going 72 mph screaming 5300 rpm up a hill with a 16 year old ken block behind the wheel

In australia see if you can get molygen additive, they have something called engine protect I have no idea about what that is. Then you don't need worry about lubegard...

From bitog

Thank you for your inquiry and your interest in Liqui Moly products. Our Liqui Moly Motor Protect, Liqui Moly Cera Tec and our Liqui Moly MoS2 Anti-Friction Engine Treatment reduces all the friction and the wear but in different ways and with different active ingredients. Liqui Moly MoS2 Anti-Friction Engine Treatment: This is the classic among our additives. The solid lubricant MoS2 bilds a lubricating film on the sliding surface and the bearings. Especially in the starting phase, when the oil pressure is low, can this lubricating film reduce the wear. The effect lasts until the oil change, because you lost the MoS2 with the old oil. Therefore, you get the best protection when you use the MoS2 at each oil change. Liqui Moly Motor Protect: This additive works compared to the MoS2 purely chemical without a solid lubricant. Motor Protect contains a chemical friction modifier which modifying the surface under heat and pressure. This results in a sliding and deformable layer. Since the surface is modified here yields a long-therm effect of approximately 31.250 miles (50.000 km). Even when the oil is changed. Liqui Moly Cera Tec This is a combination of a chemical friction modifier and a ceramic solid lubricant. By this combination Cera Tec prevents the direct metal-to-metal contact and this reduces the friction and the wear. The solid lubricant is stronger then the MoS2 but the friction modifier is not as effective as that of the Motor Protect. At a oil change you lost the most of the solid lubricants whereby the effect is reduced. Therefore it is recommended to use Cera Tec at every oil change.

Been saying this for 10 years, too bad motor protect isnt easily available here, it has all the potential in killing hemi tick that other oils/additives do. 43 bucks amazon, quite the commitment. We do need a voa/uoa on this stuff.

Thanks for lookin' out for us...clicked on link...clicked on "buy now"...done!
right on

did you get the redline yet? Mine was due today and shipped at 25 pounds, but says there was a delay from weather. And did you get an offer to buy the 5w40 from seller, my guess the dude will take 99 bucks per case on 5w40's he is selling.

I'm pretty sure the saying is who dies with the most oil filters wins, and I have all you all covered.

Ups says it's in town, but nasty weather might delay it making it to my house...(up a hill and haven't plowed yet)

I been reading way too many of these threads about the tick. I actually had a dream last night that I popped my hood to listen to the engine and it was ticking real bad (but only on the driver's side)- It was so distressing that it actually woke me up! Am I glad it was only a dream...I hope...
