So question, if you mix 5w20 redline and 5w40 redline equal shares, what weight oil would you have? I would make an argument, something closer to 0w30 redline. We know 5w20 has no vii's per dave, we know 5w30 shears very little, and we know because of the swing 5w40 redline has plenty vii's. So would this mix likely shear more then 5w30? If so, wouldnt that mean it would be more like 0w30 then 5w30 if it indeed shear more?
When my truck gets quiet again and my curiosity gets the better of me I may try it lolMaybe a good opportunity to put High Performance Lubricants to the test?
But you would be adding a pao 20 weight oil to a 40 weight oil, I don't think it adds up to 5w30. It would be easy to test and shear numbers would tell the story versus two runs one mix and one 5w30.Don't think you'd hit the target CCS viscosity with that blend that 0W provides.
I don't see a way around -30C oil pumpabilility without some VII additive to provide adequate operating temp viscosity, be it SAE 20 wt or 30 wt.
The way I remember it is you blend syn base oils to hit your lower temp target vis 1st, then additize as necessary to hit the high temp target vis.
summit has the filters, redline 83 per 6 amazon seams like best everyday price, 2 left.Where is everyone getting their RP filters and RL from these days? I'm down to 2 RP filters and 3 gallons of RL 5w30
Yeah I did but they wouldn't tell me. I said I'd go look elsewhere as its a deal breaker. Didn't help.Did you ask them if it has any moly?
Zinc was the older antiwear additive back before roller lifters. When roller lifters came out near same time exhaust catalysts did, zinc went way down. If memory serves, because zinc coats catalysts and inactivated them. Roller lifters didn't need zinc.
Then came Hemi Gen III with marginal lubrication that we know moly helps. The key antiwear agent for these motors seems to be moly, not zinc. Penrite Oil looks to be an old time racing oil before moly additives?
In australia see if you can get molygen additive, they have something called engine protect I have no idea about what that is. Then you don't need worry about lubegard...

Thank you for your inquiry and your interest in Liqui Moly products. Our Liqui Moly Motor Protect, Liqui Moly Cera Tec and our Liqui Moly MoS2 Anti-Friction Engine Treatment reduces all the friction and the wear but in different ways and with different active ingredients. Liqui Moly MoS2 Anti-Friction Engine Treatment: This is the classic among our additives. The solid lubricant MoS2 bilds a lubricating film on the sliding surface and the bearings. Especially in the starting phase, when the oil pressure is low, can this lubricating film reduce the wear. The effect lasts until the oil change, because you lost the MoS2 with the old oil. Therefore, you get the best protection when you use the MoS2 at each oil change. Liqui Moly Motor Protect: This additive works compared to the MoS2 purely chemical without a solid lubricant. Motor Protect contains a chemical friction modifier which modifying the surface under heat and pressure. This results in a sliding and deformable layer. Since the surface is modified here yields a long-therm effect of approximately 31.250 miles (50.000 km). Even when the oil is changed. Liqui Moly Cera Tec This is a combination of a chemical friction modifier and a ceramic solid lubricant. By this combination Cera Tec prevents the direct metal-to-metal contact and this reduces the friction and the wear. The solid lubricant is stronger then the MoS2 but the friction modifier is not as effective as that of the Motor Protect. At a oil change you lost the most of the solid lubricants whereby the effect is reduced. Therefore it is recommended to use Cera Tec at every oil change.
Well, if you're thinking they start with a heavier vis synthetic base blend then add pour point depressant additive to get below the natural syn CCS viscosity, that's certainly not what they did in the past because the pour point depressant additive detracts from lubricity. But you would be adding a pao 20 weight oil to a 40 weight oil, I don't think it adds up to 5w30. It would be easy to test and shear numbers would tell the story versus two runs one mix and one 5w30.
Luckily I have a local close by summit that has been keeping good stock since the endemic lol. Stocked up on those and the redline sl-1’s. Sure glad to have a summit around when no one else locally carries this stuffWhere is everyone getting their RP filters and RL from these days? I'm down to 2 RP filters and 3 gallons of RL 5w30
motor protectI can buy Liqui Moly Engine Protect, MoS2 and Cera tec in Australia. Which one would you use:
Motor oils, additives and car care from LIQUI MOLY
Motor oil, additives and car care from LIQUI MOLY, the lubricant specialist from Ulm, Germany. With more than 4000 items for every vehicle in the worldwww.liquimoly.com.au
I can also get Liqui Moly 5W-30 fully synthetic that is also MS-6395 rated. $AUD69.99 for 5L:
Also doesn't state the Moly content.
Okay, put em up GentsLet the games begin! (lol!)
Summit, and shipped to me here in Ontario, Canada.Where is everyone getting their RP filters and RL from these days? I'm down to 2 RP filters and 3 gallons of RL 5w30
either zero or low moly, 1/2 dose. Funny with a name like molygen they use a different EP additive then moly. I have seen most say zero moly but a couple with 40ppm moly which is too low. I believe they use tungsten or titanium or something else. What I don't know is if they marry that metal with sulfur like moly does, or phos like zinc does = zddp. See bobs for molygen experiences, it doesnt have any presense here. That molygen additive has promise, but there again the facts arent known.Anyone anywhere in this thread managed to find the Moly content of the Molygen 5W-30?
I'm not worthy!Okay, put em up Gents
Agreed! Their service was fantastic, the shipping was quick, and my entire order was all snuggled in nicely so it didn't succumb to the Ace Ventura delivery method.Summit Racing has excellent shipping. I use them frequently.
What oil have people tried successfully here with a Moly additive then? Lubegard is available here so I can use it. Any suggestions on which one does work? I can easily get most of the big name oils here like Shell, Castrol, Mobil etc plus Pennzoil, Penrite, LiquiMoly, Nulon etc too. Nulon is Australian Made too. The two Apex+ versions in the link are both MS-6395.either zero or low moly, 1/2 dose. Funny with a name like molygen they use a different EP additive then moly.
