Haven't purchased the truck yet, looking to to what I may be getting into with a 3500 4x4 HO SRW Mega Cab Limited. My old Ram 2500 4x4 Mega Cab SO with 3:42 rear end got 12-13 around town and 21 mpg on the freeway driving from my house to the rental a 110 miles away. Just wondering if the 3500 with the 3:73 to about the same?
I don't know anyone who buys a 2500/3500 for the gas mileage. That wasn't even something that was on my "ask" list when I ordered mine.

To all those saying don't look or care about MPG, that I shouldn't care about MPG. I don't really agree, I'm not one to get into something without know the facts. After getting into something, new truck, 5th wheel or camera hobby i live with what was chosen.

BTW, I did buy the truck last night. A Ram 3500 Mega Cab 4x4 Limited. Only two things not on the truck I noticed is no Sun Roof or lights on top of the cab. Both items I don't really like anyway. Oh, so far the MPG on the truck is 16.0 MPG but that is 240 miles driving up and down a mountain road 2,000 ft to 5,700 ft on three trips of 80 miles each and some city driving of 50 miles.

There is nothing wrong with someone asking about mileage. However, everyone's anecdotal details are really not relevant to a person buying a truck. It will not give them any valuable target to expect to hit nor will it be a fact they can rely on. Each person has a unique set of factors that contribute to their mileage; from terrain to weight to how they calculate it.

It is important for people to hear the other side, warning that what is being provided as far as numbers is not anything they should expect to achieve. Yes, people should know their own MPG so they can extrapolate where and when to refuel and it's okay to share these figures with the caveat that they may have no relationship to the OP's actuals. Some people will share statements that use humor to educate that buying a truck and asking about mileage is like eating at McDonald's regularly and worrying about cholesterol. Yes, a concern but don't be surprised that it probably will not be good.

I don't think it's unwarranted to ask about fuel economy. Just to get a "baseline" of what to expect. Agreed that not everyone drives the same, so won't get the same fuel economy. But you can at least get an average. Plus if you suddenly start getting 10 mpg no matter what it gives you an idea something is wrong.

He asked HO. Meaning High Output. Meaning Cummins diesel with the Aisin transmission.
Hemi gas guzzlers no need to reply.
Mine doesn't "guzzle" gas, just has an incessant thirst if I hook up a trailer to it, lmao.

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You literally, bought the truck and then asked for the 'facts' about mpg!

In other words, you got 'into' it first and then looked for the facts.

All a sun roof is is a factory-installed leak anyway.

If you are going by the EVIC readout, that's probably not accurate. Hand calculating is the way to go. Congrats on the new truck.
Yes that was by the EVIC which in my last two RAM trucks was always off by .5 gallons better than hand calculation. Dealer fill the tank and they don't usually fill it all the way so hand calculation would be off. When I refill the tank I will start doing hand calculations. Wonder what the chances are the EVIC is off in the opposite direction? :)

If fuel economy is a big concern, buy a 1500.

What if the concern is actually range, then is it a reasonable question in your mind?

People ask about HD fuel economy, not because they are wondering if it's better than the Camry they are cross shopping, but because they want to have an idea of how much AND HOW OFTEN they'll need to fuel. Some may be driving professionally and fuel prices and downtime matter. Some may be going places that don't have a fuel station every 50 miles. I certainly looked into expected MPG for the PW for the second reason.

We've had sunroofs in many cars over the years, including 2 Ram 2500's. We have 3 of them in vehicles we own right now. Never had a leak from any of them.

Totally understand people asking. But it is like every other question; details are needed from asking person and responding person to help make the data even slightly helpful. As seen by the OP related first use of his new truck (which sounds like a nice one, hope to see pictures) his first driving was up and down a mountain a few times. If that is their regular routine, no one such as a person driving fairly flat land in a rural setting is going to tell any type of relatable story.

So ask away but provide filters such as living in the Rockies, want to hear from those who tow about X pounds from PA to Florida, I never tow but carry Y pounds all the time and drive from Chicago to Seattle, I will use these gears and that engine. And for respondents, providing similar information will be much more useful instead of one number covering entire use. And people like me will continue to offer that we don't calculate and not because we have money to burn but because we get what we get and expect it to not be good and share that we live with it to not stress every time we fill up. We may employ tricks like not passing too many fuel stations if we are in areas devoid of them and/or not running tank past a quarter to be sure we never run out. If someone likes to run near the bottom of the tank all the time, then they need to ignore everyone's stories and do their own numbers.

We plan to use the truck to travel the country pulling a 5th wheel. Towing we know the MPG will be between 10-12 MPG but not all trips will be with the 5th wheel. That's where I was wondering what people were getting for MPG. Our last truck, a Ram 2500 4x4 Mega Cab Diesel got 12-13 around town and 20-21 on the road. When I asked the question, it was to compare the two trucks and give me more information before buying. I don't understand people just going out buying anything without looking into the product first. But that's just me.

The best way to improve MPG is drive slower. I get 14 or so empty at 75-80. MPG goes up the slower I drive. It looks like it might get 18-19 at 55, but I'm too impatient to drive very far at 55 MPH. For what its worth, my 3500 is a dually with 4.10 gears and the Aisin transmission.

I have a 2019 dually HO with the Aisin. Bought it to tow and tow it does.
If you need something that will tow big weight you have to know that you aren't going to get any impressive mileage.
If mileage is your focus, buy something else.
This truck is meant for GRUNT work and the work it will do is impressive.
Just sayin'.
