Purchased from Infotainment - was lucky to get a brand new radio (manufactured July, 2020)

Received :
  • HVAC module (P68366552AA)
  • Wire harness (assume made by Infotainment)
  • USB Media Hub
  • 8.4 Radio (68331631AK)
My system is non-dual temp control, only single.

After the install was complete, everything worked except the Climate Control, and later I discovered the Auto Headlights.

The climate screen has 1 button, "ON" - no other control selection.

The physical buttons on the bezel do nothing - HOWVER, the fan speed control SEEMS to sometimes work. And by sometimes, I mean I turn the speed higher, and sometimes the fan increases, sometimes not.

Here's the part I have not seen in anyone else reporting...
While running (or in ON), the fan will randomly turn on and off, 30s on, 30s off, sometimes longer. Blowing heat almost always. That's a super great feature for summer driving. Pressing A/C does nothing, no light.

I've read some posts in the forum that describe how the auto headlights functionality is related to the HVAC, so I believe its related.

I called Infotainment, they made me aware that I needed to let trucks computer "Learn" the new HVAC module. I've read similar posts - Ok - lets let it learn. Also advised me to double check connections, they are all in there good.

It's been 4 days, I still have the same issues.

I've tried removing the battery cables, touching them together - no dice.

My OBD reader reports a code U0164, Lost Communication With HVAC Control Module.

Advise welcome. Do I wait longer? Should I suspect the cable? I'm willing to trace the cable, with a meter to ensure its made correctly - not sure of the correct pinout. Found a link for a 2014-2018 cable pinout, same?

Thanks in advance,
Hot-Boxing ECO

I would suspect the physical connections as the culprit.

Infotainment called me just after I posted this, and are sending a new harness. Fingers crossed.
Well if they can't square you away we have a forum vendor (and member) @Mpgrimm2 who makes OEM quality harnesses (and gets it right the first time [emoji6])...

Yes, I've seen his posts, and had considered that route.

What's funny is, Infotainment was originally going to send me a replacement HVAC module. I questioned that move, stating that the harness was the piece that was hand made - all other parts were new from MOPAR. I asked for both a harness and new HVAC module so I could have a "plan b" - but the HVAC module is back ordered. Hoping to have a harness in my mailbox today, if not tomorrow.

I wonder if they are drying up the HVAC module market too?

I think some people were having issues with updating ra4s in 18 up trucks for whatever reason unless the truck was equipped factory 8.4 radios mine worked fine and I think mgrimm had one work in his truck.i don't know about drying up supply.probably but I am almost sure they drove up price.the hvac models went from around 140.00 to 450.00.right after infotainment offerd the kits

My ram is having the exact issue. I posted on the forum and nobody replied so I figured I was on my own.

I changed my battery and when I turned the truck on. My climate control is off nothing works at all and I lost my auto headlights.

I have the max care warranty so it went to the dealer yesterday.a302c7c4373a633edfc02c8128dee10b.jpg

Good news! Got the new harness! THIS TIME, pulled the negative battery terminal, wasn't going to chance anything.

Buttoned it all up, and the climate controls turned up as soon as I powered on the truck. No waiting. So relieved!

Thats how mine looked - except I had done the radio upgrade.

I had tried everything. Pulling the battery, disconnected the HVAC, reconnected. In my case it was a bad harness, yours is factory, right?

Interesting. Do you have the part number they replaced on your paperwork?
