Mine fit under the bed in the factory location like it should. No need to throw it in the bed. The one that I got was from a 3rd gen. Back when they actually put real spare tires under the bed. Used, but I trust it more than the "temporary" spare that came stock. BTW. The 17" wheel on mine was steel and the same size on my son's big Horn both 2018s is aluminum. Painted black. Not sure the reasoning in either case, but there it is. BTW a stock wheel from a 4the gen won't fit under the bed from what I have understood. The inside diameter is too small. Keep that In mind if shopping for a spare wheel.
I found someone selling a 20” rim with an old tire with most tread still on it. $40. It cranked right up into the storage cradle with no probs.
Must have read it wrong....wasn't under there very long.
