Indeed a gas engine and yes, it was completely full of oil - no low fluids, no warnings, no nothing other than noise.

Well, in my Very Humble Opinion, if I heard and was able to record/verify a knock like that something just not right...... But U do what U need to do and Good Luck with this situation and keep us posted, V/R T-Bird

Absolutely agree, but if I can't get it to happen again then I can't get them to tear it down and fix it. That's what sucks about it. I *know* there's a problem, and I'm kicking myself now for not letting the dealer 200 miles away tear it down while they were hearing it. Expensive lesson learned, potentially. I did send a message to Ram Customer Care from their official page so we'll see if anything comes of that.

I will say I got a lot better mileage coming back on a fresh fill up then I did going down, by like +2 MPG average.

Thats because it had a stuck lifter on the way down LOL.

Just kidding. Good luck and keep us posted!

Just adding an update. I emailed customer care and they have escalated the issue providing me with a case number and manager for this issue. He is supposed to call me today or tomorrow and I'll report what he says. I also received an oil test kit from Blackstone over the weekend and I'll be sending that off soon for an analysis.

Please update what your oil analysis reads. Sounds like one of the lifters on one of the MDS affected cylinders (1,4,6,7) did not perform as designed, for a little bit. do you currently allow the MDS to operate or do you use manual shift mode? STU

I Specifically got mine for daily driving and taking long road trips out west. Last year transmission took a dump with 2400 miles on the OD, now has rear end whine and Hemi Tick. Not sure I can trust it on a 5k Road trip. I really do love the truck but disappointed with how it’s having problems. I really miss my 1999 dodge magnum with the 5.9 gasser, solid as a rock. For the price I paid for my 2018 I could have completely rebuild my 99.

If you don't have any issues with your truck then run It and don't worry about it. Life is too short.

Going on 3 yrs this December my truck has been darn near flawless. Best truck I've ever owned. They all can have issues but I'm sure a whole lot more are like mine than the ones you read about on the internet.

Sorry to hear you've had all those troubles man. That does stink. I had a 97/2500 wlth the 5.9 and besides for major trans issues was a great truck.

I still love the 94s styling the best.

Mine has some knock on cold starts it goes away after a couple min's. Then is very quiet. My 96 454 vortec in my motorhome does the same thing. To anyone that has had a new motor put in did the start up knock go away or is it the same. This noise is not the hemi tick that eats cams. Drive the beast till it lets loose if there is a real problem it will rear its ugly head. I would say cold start noises not a problem knocking and ticking after warm up probably a issue. My wifes infiniti q60 3.7l(best dam engine ive ever owned)makes some funny nosies on cold start to.

i've got a tick that sounds like exhaust hot or cold. (it's not exhaust) really embarrassing passing vehicles in town and the ****** sound echos off their vehicle when passing them. i've noticed under light throttle with the mds disabled it isn't as loud but soon as the mds kicks in it's obnoxious or you kick it down (when it decides to shift). my 09 1500 5.7 purred like a kitten compared to this thing and shifted a lot nicer too.
