Hey everyone, I'm looking at a 2015 6.7 Cummins Laramie. I currently drive a 2017 ram 1500 5.7 with the 3.92 rear end. I came off an '07 Duramax prior to that so I'm not new to diesels. What can I expect from this truck? I.E. maintenance, known issues.

Thanks,
Dave

Nothing but oil and filters in my 2016. I'm sure the gas guys will come out of the woodwork and tell you how much maintenance a diesel is though..... :)

I would avoid anything that has been tuned and deleted personally. Never know how it was treated and even a mild tune can destroy the 68RFE transmission if not driven responsibly.

What kind of mileage do these SCR trucks get?

... they'll also mention the "exorbitant" cost of DEF :-O
The truck uses about 1-2% in relation to the amount of fuel burned.

What kind of mileage do these SCR trucks get?

Right now I average ~16 give or take around town driving.(rural but this is going to the store, picking up kids from school etc) Mixed highway I'm around ~18 but that is running 75+ and keeping up with traffic. Bring that down to 65 and it will go up. Towing I'm around ~11-12.

Some people claim to get in the mid 20's but I have never seen that so a bit skeptical. Maybe a straight highway run at 65 with no stops would yield that though?

My truck is a mega cab with a level kit and 35's. Speedo has been calibrated to the bigger tires and all the mpg is hand calculated. My evic display mpg is always 2-2.5 higher then hand calculated. Has been since day 1 even with stock tires.

For what it is worth I get better mpg, have more power, and more comfort then my 2006 (non emission) 5.9 mega cab.

Fidler, I daily drove a couple 5.9 Cummins and loved them. The need diesels are loaded down with epa controls, including the exhaust and then cycles. Costly fixes when and if these need attention. That being said, if you have need of the diesel power, work or towing, none better than the Cummins you are looking at. Just not sure it is the best choice for running around town or lots of stop and go driving.

2015 Ram 6.7, 75k on it.

So, I'm crawling around under it looking for the NOX sensor that was just replaced ($960). I see a 12" diameter tube about 2 ' long, silver in color, that is clearly part of the emissions system (catalytic converter?). The welded seams at each end have significant rust. Imagine it will rust out before long.

Question: Is this part of the system that has a 100,000 warranty. I've been reading that this age and mileage is when these diesels start getting expensive. Yes?

I doubt the warranty will cover rust. There are 2 emissions devices under there. The first down from the turbo is the DPF and the second is the SCR. I'm assuming it is the DPF since that gets real hot during a regen and will show mild rust and discoloration but I have never heard of one rusting through. Do you live in a area were they salt the roads? That may be a concern because that destroy's everything. My 2016 with 60K on it looks great with just mild surface rust on the welds. I'm guessing it would be another 10+ years before rust was even a remote concern on mine

Plenty of high mileage emissions intact diesels still running great out there. Don't fall into all the paranoia. You get all these people deleting these trucks and spreading "omg the sky is falling" because they "think" they will have issues not because they actually are having issues. Yes there are some that do just like any vehicle gas or diesel.

Just for the record, I am not against deleting my truck. But only if I have legitimate issues with it, not because I think I might.

Nope, dry Colorado air.

Don't really understand Deleting and not that interested. Completely stock and and will stay that way. Content to pull my 5th-wheel travel trailer. About 55k of my mileage is pulling it. Nice setup. Love the power.

Thanks for your response.

That's strange you are getting rust out there? I lived there for 10 years and my current truck spent a year and a half out there before we moved back south.

I'm with you, completely content with my non-deleted truck and hope to keep it that way. It runs and pulls great as is.

You’ll understand deleting when the DPF or SCR needs replacing at the cost of $3k.
More responsiveness, better mileage, cleaner oil, better reliability.

Lot's of people out there with 100's of thousands of miles on their totally stock trucks. No need to bring unnecessary troubles on by deleting. If you look at many of these threads where guys are having problems with their truck a lot of them start with the OP stating that their trucks are deleted.

I see more people having trouble with emissions than deleting.

I’m guessing you’re not a member of Cummins forum, if you were you wouldn’t of made such a silly post.

I'm a member of the Cummins' forum, I'm having reading issues finding these "emission problems" posts. Since the MY15 SCR update, emissions issues have been mostly not.

I guess the Cummins forum I'm on must have not gotten the memo declaring you the "Master of All Knowledge" because those emissions
problems you talk about are almost non-existent.
That must mean you're full of :dancingpoop:
