About to replace lifters...any performace mods while doing so?

This is so frustrating. Really wanted to trade in on a Power Wagon but recent threads on lifter failure on the 6.4, along with the local Ram parts manager telling me they go through 6.4 cams and lifters just like they do the 5.7 has me considering switching brands. Thankfully my company pays for my maintenance and is taking care of all these repairs, but I doubt the boss would be excited if I went to another Ram truck after having to do this twice.

Did you install the same factory lifters?
Have not heard of any failures with the Hellcat lifters......I think the new Mopar #'s are the Hellcat but this only occurred around November/December of 2019.

I used the non-mds lifters that came with the cam from Moe’s Performance.

Did it just start tapping or did you reach the point of misfire / check engine?

Heard tapping a couple days before it went to the shop, but it was weird...it started tapping, then less than 5 min later it stopped. Did that same thing one more time, later that evening. The following day started it up and it was non-stop.

Just heard back from the shop:

"As we discusses earlier, Cylinder 5 intake lifter has worn needle bearings and caused the roller to lock up and grind down cam lobe. The Oil control valve has missing screens and has metal shavings built up in remaining screens. Long block will need to be replaced. If long block is installed may need to reflash pcm so no engine light stays on and runs properly. Reman engine parts, labor and taxes $7770.17 .. reman engine is warrantied for 3yrs/100,000 miles."

Whelp...there goes my HPT cam, non-mds lifters, and HemiFever custom tune. Wonder how the stock motor will do with the higher stall torque converter...

Man that is awful. I bed metal shavings from the first failure led to this. I'd look into a Jasper engine for the replacement.

So what lifters did you use from Moes? Are they hellcat or mopar non MDS stock lifters?

I've read the whole Story and its time for a Jasper Engine, all stock nothing fancy and a great warrantee for 3yrs 100,000.I'm going to go this way, Because this is a dog and pony show. You put the key in the ignition and it starts the what?

Curious as to what kind of warranty the shop gave you on the top to bottom rebuild you got from them.
I wouldn’t be happy if I had a shop rebuild my motor that only lasted 75,000 miles

What brand lifters did you install with your HPT cam? MDS has nothing to do with the needle bearings failing as those holes actually get more pressure when the solenoid locks.

You must let the truck hot idle frequently, does Moe’s custom tune not increase rpm/oil pressure? Obviously we expect redline snake oil to prevent this from happening, so unless you went over a year or 20k miles on an oil change it’s not the magic potion people think it is.

Honestly I'm not sure which brand lifters, just whatever came with the HPT cam from Moe's. I want to make clear I'm not trying to point a finger at Matt or Moe's Performance. He's been on the phone with me several times and even remembered who I was after nearly two years.
I never let the truck go past 7,500 miles between oil changes. I did run the 180* t-stat and an e-fan (deleted the mechanical fan). Monitored my temps via the diablo t-2, almost neurotically, never saw anything out of the ordinary.

As far as warranty on the rebuild, measly 3 month 5k miles. I did blow a headgasket just outside of that time frame and the shop repaired it for free. But unfortunately well out of warranty.

Latest on this is that one of the three screens on the oil control valve was missing when they pulled it out. The dealer is saying that since that screen is missing, and they can see metal shavings on the two remaining screens, they can not do just the cam and lifter and are recommending a long block replacement. Went over it with the boss (he pays for service on the truck) and he's wanting to just let the dealer throw a new mopar engine in it. Comes with the 3yr/100k mile warranty. Cheaper for him than the new truck he knows I'm trying to pin him for haha...but if he's paying then I suppose that's what I'm going with. At this point I'm over it. Back to stock we go. Now with the warranty on the motor I suppose I need to go back to recommended oil, but apparently the redline 5-30 didn't do it for me anyway.

Just at a loss on how this could happen...
