Just bumping this thread to see what other options may have materialized in the last few months.

ADD has a new stealth bumper that I like, but their rep states it's not designed for a power wagon. I wonder if it could be made to. I think there's enough room for the winch to still be accessible, possibly widen the opening a bit...thoughts?

Good day everyone, figured I would add my two cents to this discussion. I recently dented the paper thin rear bumper on my 18 PW, and wanted to replace it with something heavier (thicker that could take a minor hit). IMHO, the WARN rear Ascent bumper was the best looking and had steps for this old fart to assist getting into the bed. FYI, my PW is a pavement princess, that tows, and works around the yard, not an off road vehicle.

I had several issues with the install, mostly pilot error, and me not understanding how the parking sensors work.

First I wanted the bumpers the same black as the lower portion of the truck, I lightly sanded the Warn bumper, applied primer, the base coat and finally the clear. The finish on the Warn bumper does not like being painted, I should have either applied an adhesion promoter or taken the bumper down to bare steel, the paint peeled, all three layers.

Two: the heavier steel bumper will not allow the parking sensors to work, period! I actually took the truck to the dealer to make sure I did not screw anything up. Take the sensors out and hang them under the bumper, they worked, place into the bumper they shut down, back out work, back in shut down, the error message either said; not available or wipe sensors.

Fix: After screwing around, I thought the sensors should be isolated from the bumper more. I used leaf spring bushings from a YJ Jeep. Modified them to hold the sensors, enlarged the holes in the bumper to accept the larger bushing. Still did not work. Finally, feeling like Edison trying different filaments for the light bulb, I used a heavy butyl sound deadner and glue it behind the sensors between the steel of the bumper and sensor, they now work. I can only theorize why..maybe the the sound material blocks the magnetic pull between the sensors and bumper....it was a learning experience. Warn installation directions does say the sensors may not workIMG_1490.jpg .

to continue from above, the sensors stop working again. they only thing left were the LED back up lights, I disconnected them and the sensors started to work, and they work as intended!!!! So I had to relocate the lights to below the bumper and changed them to a slim-line unit. Tint and old eye balls I need the extra light. Not sure how the cube lights work, is there a transofrmer, or resistor in the housing that could interfere with the sensors, don't know?

So all is good now!

Here are few pictures of the Expedition One Bumpers I just installed. The install for the front went great other than missing a sensor bracket. The rear was little harder as I had to drill some holes to mount a sensor and Exp1 fails to tell you that you need to purchase the parking sensor rings from the front to get them to work. Luckily one dealership in town had them in stock.

Unless DV8 has gotten their stuff together, I would stay away. When I ordered a hood and bumper for my Jeep from them it was oh yeah it will ship next week. Never did 2 months of the BS I cancelled.

I really like the herd bumpers, plus they are lighter. I had an Ute on my 95 which is similar to the herd.

I feel like this post is going to cost me 3-4K if I get into a bumper. The expedition one above this post looks great and then I go well that’s on a 19+ so I need one of those also.

damn tree stump is going to cost me 25-30k to upgrade trucks lol

Here is a pic of a Thuren

I do like the Thuren but it pokes out a bit more than the HCC and not having to remove the winch is a big plus. Once taxes come back I think HCC is getting my money, Thuren is a very close second.

question though why do half the lights look like they are obstructed? is it just the camera angle or do they really sit that crooked in the bumper?

Both camera angle , I had to position the lights a little on the outside to have room , to get my hand into the winch area for the lever and connector for the controller, it’s a small amount and did not effect the light beam.

Anyone have updates on what bumpers they went with?

I’m leaning heavily towards the chassis unlimited for a front end option. After doing the pricing I can’t justify the AEV option right now.
The price of the CU bumper will allow me to add Baja design squadrons and a 30 in bar to it for roughly the same price as the AEV without lights. Hard to pass that up consisting what you get.

I need a rear option as I dented that the other week also.

I ordered the CU one today. I like all the light options otherwise I would have gone with the HCC.

I dont like the winch placement on the CU. The selling point of the HCC for me is keeping the winch in the stock location

I have the ARB so apples and oranges but one of the many things I like about it is I can stand on it to work under the hood when not at home with a stepladder. Depending on the nature of the “poke”, it can be a good thing.

Well for me if its gonna hinder my approach angle any Im not gonna be happy. I dont know that the thuren would if any over the HCC but also the aesthetics plays a part. Hate bumpers that look like the truck has a fat lip. The HCC is tucked in nice and close
