Anyone in Allegheny county with a Power Wagon? I have a 2021 and apparently you have to have the emissions test done with a two step tailpipe inspection like they used to do in the 1800's!! Nobody in my area still has these machines and if they do they are broke and need obsolete parts. Long story short where is everyone getting their Power Wagons emissions tested in Allegheny county? Thanks!

I'd contact your local DMV and tell them nobody does that test and get direction from them...

Are you saying that your truck needs a different type of emissions testing than any other 2021 Ram truck out there? There is nothing special about a new Power Wagon in regards to emissions testing....it's the exact same powertrain as any other gas 2500 Ram on the road. Are you sure somebody isn't getting confused when you say "Power Wagon" and thinking it's some really old truck?

Alleghenny County Emissions Testing Places:

Has nothing to do with being a Power Wagon, goes by Vehicle GVWR (weight) (and a whole bunch of other factors).

My GVWR is 8545. That apparently requires the old tail pipe sniffer test. Nobody and I mean nobody has the equipment to do this test. I even called the Pa. state police, they found me one about an hours drive away, lol. I guess most 2500's have a GVWR over 9 or 10,000. Power Wagons don't have that rating requiring them to have the old two step emissions test. Why they can't just do the OBDII test is beyond me!

Dunno, I just figured send U the info. Many Moons ago, had to go thru NJ State At their "approved" garages, where they did the tail pipe, jacked up the front of your car, checked ball joints, checked alignment, headlight alignment, all dat silly chit.

There was another article in there I did not send that reported on the PA Senate working to eliminate some of the smog tests, U may want to research that also.

I'll just stay down here in TX now, LOL.

So, just because the gvwr is less than a normal 2500 they require a completely different emissions test, even though its the exact same emmisions as a normal 2500. Makes sense. Typical government hard at work.

Yes, in PA the HD trucks still require the old tailpipe sniffer test. Problwm is nobody has these and can't can't get parts. Dealers don't even have them. Thankfully I don't need it in my town but my son did and it took about 25 phone calls and about 3 hours of calling to find one. He said he does all of the HD trucks for local dealers so doesn't normally have time to do them for the public but made time for my son since he was working out of state and only had 1 day to get it done. And PA requires annual safety inspections but you cannot get that without the emissions first.
Another stupid 'law' by PA lawmakers.

I can ask around.
Did you try asking Cochran Ram in Natrona Heights/Freeport area who does their inspections?
Only thing with Cochran is that if you call the number and they're busy, you will get central booking - and they are useless.

Haha, that's where I bought it from! They said they don't have the machine. Didn't ask them about who does theirs, I live in the North Hills. Shorkey doesn't have one either. Krebs doesn't have one. Joe Ball on route 8 doesn't have one. Ron Lewis in Cranberry doesn't have one. Those small shops that do have one are waiting for parts or have just given up because the parts aren't available. I can't believe that I'm 45 pounds over the 8501 stated below and that is what's causing all of this!!!

This was the response from Cochran RAM - Thank you for your concern regarding PA Emissions Testing. The specific equipment needed for your Emissions test is no longer required for a PA Emissions Certified Repair Facility. We have partnered with an independent facility that handles 2 Speed Tailpipe Emissions tests for 1996 and current vehicles between 8,501 and 9,000 GVWR. Your vehicle at the time of purchased was Exempt.

My son got his done at Youngs Auto on Big Knob Rd, not too far from Cranberry. They do them for Northland Ford (now Baierl Ford) and a few others

Supposedly you can reregister it at 8500 lbs.
Only drawback is if you do run it at the max weight you will be over the registration and can get fined.

Thanks! I'm going to call AAA and give it a try

Update - Holy hell you are a lifesaver! Called AAA and they said sure we can do it, we do it all the time. I have to wait till August 2023 when my registration is up though. No big deal, I'll get the tail pipe emissions done somewhere this year then next year change the weight rating.
Thanks again!

They are going to have to change the standards soon or there will be alot of HD owners in PA not allowed to drive their trucks

Well, back to bad news. The place that did the emissions said it doesn't matter what my registration says, they go by the sticker on the door. And if it says 8545 then that's what they go by. Any vehicle between 8501 and 9000 GVWR has to have the two step tail pipe emissions test

I would have to question that, they should go off of the owner's card.

Well I did find a place I think.
Was told Freehling service in Natrona Heights right near Walmart does the tailpipe inspections.

They were trying to change them, then Wolfe got elected. The part that sucks is the only reason we have IM inspections is to get the federal $$$ Pa was forced into it years ago, that's why it isn't uniform.
It should be any OBD2 vehicle should just be using the OBD2 system as that is what the EPA allows.
