Can anyone tell me how to hook up the light strip so that it will light up when the headlights come on. I't just two wires a black which I know goes to the neg pole of the battery but I don't knopw where to attach the red wire ( do I have to tap into the headlight harness and if so what wire), Thank you for any help that can be provided

@kneary01 Welcome to RamForum. I'm moving this thread to the 4th Gen/Classic - Exterior section for better visibility (see what I did there?).

Since it's a Classic, it should be very close to my 2014.
Which also did not come with a Under Hood Light.

here is what I did.

if you're just looking for Power, look for this= clip. Mine had a green dead end plugged into it.
Passenger side of truck. Near hood hinge. Top of Firewall or there abouts.

Removed the green filler Cap and plugged fsactory under hood Light kit into it.
Imagine you could just snip the plug off, install your own plug or Tin the connections, direct, and heat shrink them.

Link above Has wiring diagrams, you could tap the blue and white wire on the driver side or the light brown and white wire on the passenger side for the low beam

Most LED light bars, if not all, aren't street legal since they will blind incoming traffic. You would want your light bar turned on and off using an aux switch.

I did not see where he mentioned an under hood work light or a light bar, for places that can be seen on the exterior

personally, i think a string of LED lights under the hood, makes a decent work light, this set is show quality

Well, he mentions whether or not tapping into the headlight harness is an option which makes me assume he either wants an aftermarket drl to come on when the headlights come on or a light bar .... we need more information and exactly what light "strip" he has ....

My short lightbar wiring, goes from my battery to a inline fuse that is real close to the battery, then the wire passes through the blocked off firewall plate to a lighted Rocker Switch, then another wire goes back through the firewall & goes behind the battery & fuse box & then follows the wiring for the AGS, the lightbar is almost under the AGS

Planning to do the same install and where do you go through the firewall? I'm working on a 2017 1500 Laramie.

thanks, Bill

The OP never said what kind of light he wanted to install. Don't know if it is "decorative", or some type of driving light. A little more information would be helpful to get a good answer. Not to be rude, but this was posted over a month ago, and no further response from the OP ?
