General grabber at/x tires

Folks, have a 2018 Ram 1500 Harvest edition 4wd. Hope I am on the correct forum.
I am looking for new tires, I am looking at the General Grabber At/x. I live in Wisconsin. Would appreciate anyone's experience. With the cost of tires nowadays I want to make sure I am getting something that a ram owner experienced.

Prepare yourself, this thread is fixin' to make you half crazy.
You would be better served by searching the dozens of tire threads that provide experience with General and just about every other tire available.
I can't speak to your Generals, never tried them. I used to love Bridgestone until I had a set that wore out in 22,000 miles.
Currently trying Falken for the 1st time ever, the Wildpeak. Since July 2023 and very impressed so far, summer, rain, snow/slush/ice. Not a dedicated winter tire but very good performance.

As whether I will still like them 20k - 30k miles from now remains to be seen. Yep, tires can be spendy. We want to love them and we want them to last. Good luck!

Coopers are my tire choice.
They seem to last a long time and I've had zero problems.
I currently still have my Rugged Treks on stock 33's with 33K miles and their running smooth as new.
I know you ask a question about the General's but thought I would throw in my 2 cents just in case you change your mind.

I ran General Grabbers on my Wranglers and they were great. Got a set on my 2000 now. They replaced Firestone ATs that I also liked. Bonus is that both were USA made!

Im in Michigan, similar climate i suppose

My truck is a 2500 which doubles as a family hauler and a plow truck

It sees its fair share of snow as well as highway miles


My go to tire is the Kenda klever AT2
10 ply to be able to handle a half ton truck, aggressive enough thread to handle plow duty but none of the highway rumble A/T tires are known for

Having spend many an hour on dirtbikes, when I found out Kenda makes truck tires, I had to try them, and I wasn't disappointed

I’ve had all kinds of all terrains and said I wouldn’t go back when I got this truck. They all made you give up something like ride, noise, mpg, grip, and I said I wasn’t going back. Black Friday had Cooper Discoverer All Terrains at Walmart+ on a deal. I figured I could resell them if they sucked. Cooper plant is here in our state and you can literally call them lol. The Walmart Cooper Discover All Terrain is a discontinued model that’s now renamed and only at Walmart. They were the AT3’s. The ride is %98 as good as the highway tires and %98 as quiet as them as well. I didn’t lose any fuel economy at all, I think I gained 1-2 even after AlfaOBD to calibrate the speedometer for the taller size. They chew through anything I’ve went through. Water, mud, gravel and we DO NOT have any real winter road prep but they ate through that as well. We got off our cruise ship in New Orleans and it took 12 hours to make it the 6,5 hours home… Rain, sleet, freezing rain so bad we had to keep pulling over to chip it off to see. Then the snow hit about Little Rock so heavy, there was 1 lane of interstate and times you couldn’t see anything, you just held on. Hitting drifts a foot or more deep that would come up before you could react and they didn’t let go 1 time! I don’t know what the new models of Coopers are like but so far, I haven’t ever had a tire to beat them at twice the money. I got the one size up that looks better is only $175… you will need to recalibrate your speedometer though.

I have the Coopers too, and they're good. But the General Grabber AT's would work fine as well. There are a lot of tires that'll work fine. You'll drive yourself nuts trying to find the "perfect" tire. Just pick one and go with it. Make sure you have them Road Force balanced (the best balance system).

Had them on my 2016 1500 Limited...very solid AT tire IMO. They were my 3rd set of tires...I put approx. 30K on them before I traded my truck in. Tread wear was minimal and they handled well in all weather conditions and I live in the Northeast.

I have zero issues running a general tire. I've had 3 sets of them. They wear like iron, grip well and ride well. Also, the 275/60r20 is a d rated tire, so it'll ride better than an e rating.

Like most have said... I've owned both Cooper Discoverer AT3s and General Grabber ATX and had no issues out of either tire. My go to are the Coopers but I would have no issue buying the Grabbers if I found a better deal.

Most important is to get them road force balanced. I've found that to be more important (for me) than anything else.

Excellent tires. On my third set now: two on my Ram (35's) and one set on my old Grand Cherokee WJ (33's). They wear, I love them in the snow, not noisy at all and if you know someone who works for Continental they can get tires discounted significantly. Continental owns General.
So I'd say go for it.

I've got about 40k on my Grabber A/Tx (275/65/20) and they've been great in all conditions. They seem to be wearing evenly and looking at the current tread depth, I'm fairly certain I'll get at least 60k out of them. They also seem to be very reasonably priced compared to other A/T tires. Mine are E rated because I tow a boat on occasion, but they still ride fairly well. My one negative with them is the weight. Comparing other E rated A/T tires, the Grabbers are wayyy heavier (64 lbs per tire). That's at least 5 lbs per tire heavier than any other manufacturer in the same size tire and more than 10 lbs heavier than some. At more than 20 lbs heavier than the stock tires I took off, my fuel economy took a hit of 2.5 MPG or so. The extra weight will likely keep me from buying another set. I can go to a larger size T/A K02 (285/65/20, also E rated) and still shave off 4 lbs per tire.

Ran Grabber ATX on my 2018 1500 and they were the best tires I have ever put on a truck. Highly recommend. Went through everything weather wise that Ontario could throw at them and had great tread wear too.

P 265/70/17 . I think same size a 1500 run. Good tire for good price,
Quiet , running well on dry asphalt.
3 years now no sign of dry rot so far.
in dry southwest. No snow or mud,

I have grabber A/Tx studded 265-70-17 on 2003 dodge half ton. I don't use it much in summer but I have two seasons of off-road winter hunting and they are good. I don't notice excessive highway noise even studded. That said, I have a customer with a volvo wagon and they got general tires (regular consumer highway tires) and the noise is ridiculous. It's unbelievable. They don't hear it so it's ok, but I am the mechanic and it drives me crazy.

For comparison, I ran goodyear duratracs with studs until they priced themselves out of my market. I have friends on Coopers and they like them. One friend has BFGs and likes them but I never had a set I liked (but I never bought a new set, they came on used cars). The BFGs scalloped (solid axle Scout II) and didn't grip well ever on any surface.

When wheeling up a rock outcrop 'bench' that was barely climbable, my buddy (2002 half ton dodge off road package--solid axle not IFS) was able to climb a bit better (new BFGs). I attribute this to the studs hampering my rock grip. We both made it but he was able to crawl and I had to 'cowboy' a bit more.

Another note, this may pertain to fuel economy: My garage is slightly sloped out the door. Goodyear tires (duratrac both 265-70-17 and 285-70-17 studded) I could get in the truck and 'coast' out slowly, sometimes a slight push with my left foot out the door. With the Grabbers, it won't roll and takes a harder push. I immediately noticed this and repeated the test many times. I have extensive fueling records up until the last couple years when I started fueling a lot from cans (supermarket fuel point deals)....so, unfortunately, I can't say exactly what happened to measured mpg between the tires (except that it sucks, dodge passes everything but a gas station).

I have a 2010, 1500 with the 5.7l. Truck came with these tires and my avg mpg, mostly in town driving, is 10 mpg which in my mind is terrible. Questions are,

1- what psi do you keep them at? mine say max 65 psi, currently filled to 45 psi.
2- what mpg are you getting with these tires? (year of your truck and is yours a 1500?)
