Buying new truck, had to sign acknowledgment that connected services account can’t be activated?

2022 was the only year there were connected services deletes because of parts shortages, and that was only for some 8.4” non-navigation radio equipped vehicles.
@Tulecreeper has a 5” radio, which have never been capable of connected services or WiFi because they don’t have cell cards.

Pre-2022 8.4” non-navigation and 5” radios are not capable of connectivity.
2022+ 5” radios are not capable of connectivity.
2022+ 8.4” non-navigation, 8.4” navigation, and 12” radios are capable of connectivity via a separate telematics box (unless it’s a 2022 8.4 non-nav that had the telematics box deleted).
NONE of these are the OP’s issue.
The OP has a 2024, and was signing to acknowledge that connected services won’t be set up AT THIS TIME. The dealership should have explained in more detail why that is, and it’s because of the battery drain issue (across most 2024 vehicle lines) that I outlined in post #14.
Once they release the software fix for that, then the OP will be able to set up connected services.
This explains why the sales guy told me I had the option to subscribe to remote start, engine vitals, remote unlock, etc with the app on my 2021 Bighorn, but when I tried to get it working Stelantis said my truck didn’t have it. Reason # 12,842 not to trust car/truck salesmen/women.

I typed up a more technical reply, but let's just leave it at this: The system knows in real time where you are and will transmit that data. It's not like VoIP looking for a registered address like the old "Magic Jack" devices or similar. Directly from Sirius XM/Guardian's literature: ""If you are unable to respond, ASOS can direct emergency services to your location via GPS"" And the 911 button relies on a cell connection. Anything on the cell network necesarily has real time location tracking as it's the only way to know which tower to hit and when to do hand offs. The data location is absolutely available in real time without any investigation needed.

I started my law enforcement career in a dispatch center and worked my way up to a supervisor in a major felony office with stops as a patrol officer, detective, and field supervisor along the way. I've taken 911 calls, been dispatched on automated dispatches, and done warrants on cell providers. I've never had a vehicle dispatched in my jurisdiction that was actually somewhere else or gotten a call from another jurisdiction's dispatch that it was actually on us *except* incidents right on the border were it tagged a tower across the line and was automatically routed to their dispatch. Even then they instantly knew it was on us once a human viewed it. Believe what you like. I know how it works.
I could tell by your earlier reply that you had some type of Public Safety Experience. You are 100% on point. I did 32 LEO myself. My wife did over 15 as an emergency communications dispatcher, and became their trainer.

This is how the system works.

I could see where it may be OK if you where in trouble, but out in the sticks , does it work? There are places where cell phones don't work.

Depends on which one you have. It's already discussed in the thread, but some work on cell connection and some work via satellite.

I won’t buy GM because of Onstar - I don’t want my vehicle tracked or listened in on. Not that I’m that interesting, it’s the principle.
If RAM starts doing that crap, I’ll have to keep mine forever and just restore it when it needs it.

Your vehicle is equally 'tracked' as long as it's in cell signal range, unless you have the connected services delete.

I doubt OnStar listens in, unless their business model now includes selling advertising data. Unless you have no phone or a potato phone, Onstar is the least of your privacy concerns. Even a potato phone is 'tracked' as far as location data, call logs, etc.

SiriusXM Guardian does that stuff.

As far I know it doesn't listen to you like Google/Alexa/Siri devices. But it does collect information, and they do "share" it.

This is old one. Different state laws have changed since that one was posted.

I really do NOT WANT connected services. Last thing I want is the dealer or the manufacturer reflashing over my AlphaOBD setups. It sounds like a service, but how many manufactures now want you to subscribe to features, like $10 per month for heated seats.
No thank you, I'll even give up remote unlock and start. Call me a Luddite, but my truck can't be stolen by someone with an RF transceiver.

I would say, "remote services? Cancel the deal and get me a TRUCK!"

The US Gov't wants everyone to have a OnStar type system.
Vehicles with OnStar enable the Authorities to cut the power to cylinders, they can not cut power to all cylinders, because that would cause loss of control. In others words, they can cut power during a lawful pursuit. ( Like if it were used in a Crime, including excessive speed.)
GM vehicles can be OnStar activated with an order from the court or the normal way where the Vehicle Owner activates it for the intended usage.

I discovered this way back in early 2009, when i wanted a brand new GM pickup.

WebSites like https://slashdot.org/ seem to dig out flaws of Gov't Rules & Regs

Like I said, I’m not that interesting, but Onstar has been used by Federal Law enforcement to listen in on cars of suspected organized criminals and terrorists.

You’re right about the phone thing. I have mine so locked down, almost no apps have access to location, camera, microphone, etc. unless it suits me - like my guitar tuner app has microphone access.

I initially thought the auto start/unlock features via app would be cool, but then I got the truck home, tried to configure it, it didn’t work and I found out the salesman was either a liar (they all are), or mistaken - my Bighorn didn’t have advanced uconnect features, just the stereo/phone/CarPlay ones. I called Ram National customer service and they said it couldn’t even be added to my truck. NBD, but a let down for a day or two based on my expectations from the dealership.

I had to activate sirius fm for that feature to work
I wish there was a way to permanently delete SiriusXM - the only solution I have is keep it on channel zero so when I pass it doesn’t hit me with all the noisy sales pitches. An annoyance of the highest degree.

I like Sirius personally. My favorite streams currently are Tom Petty’s “Buried Treasure” programs and Ray Benson’s “Austin Outer Limits”. I love jazz, but their channels are lacking. I also have Amazon prime music, which has a higher bit rate stream and I can generate my own playlists.

I listened to Deep Tracks almost exclusively. I just canceled my XM because they sent a Change of Terms letter saying that if you sign up for a year or whatever, and you cancel before your year is up, they won't refund you, and they won't cancel you until the whole year is over.
Now to see what offers they give me to win me back.

Deep tracks is a good channel! Ha! Yes, always cancel/don’t renew and negotiate! I saw the new terms also! From now on I will negotiate for a monthly plan I suppose. I’ve never paid full price for the service and been a subscriber since it was just Sirius gosh, maybe 20 years ago?

Same here. That's what I do.
Last email from them was $5 month/$60 year and free up grade to full Platinum channel selection.

Security issues regarding personal information that is uploaded into Uconnect phone pairing can give new “CAN bus injection” attackers information about your phone and applications for home automation security passwords and codes circumventing the need for bypass harnesses through the OBD port or inaccessible CAN bus connectors

Could you please elaborate on the above statement and/or provide supporting links or documentation?

Thanks in advance.
