2018 2500 Tradesman... Finished swapping my 5" stock radio for an 8.4" with parts from M2mods/mgrimm (awesome guy, very helpful, def recommend!). To be clear, I didnt buy the radio from m2mods, just his wiring harness /HVAC upgrade.

The new radio wont turn on. I bought it at a too good to be true price, so I imagine its dead, how do I confirm this? Battery was unplugged during install, New HVAC 7 speed blows great, unplugged and re-plugged everything, checked the fuses including the extra 20 amp by the brake booster, all are fine.

I'd rather not buy another used radio if there a chance this one is OK.

Thanks!

The "too good to be true" price may bite you but I would check the radio fuse for starters, it's in the wiring harness in the engine bay. Passenger side upper firewall.

Odd thing is. When I put the truck into reverse the backup camera displays on the screen for a second or two and then cuts out and then works and then cuts out again.
I should add this is a 2017 Panasonic radio. I think that's the one having problems with the digitizer?

I may be wrong but to the best of my knowledge the 2017 had a Harmon Kardon radio and the 2018 forward have the Panasonic 8.4 radio which supports CarPlay and android auto. The first batch of the Panasonic 2018 radios had the bad digitizers made by LG. It was corrected on the later versions of the Panasonic models.

Buying a new 8.4. Consensus from multiple people is a bad radio. I'm not going to throw more $ at this one.

I should have been clearer- radio is a Panasonic with android auto, dated 2017

I was told drivers side by brake booster, that's where I found a 20amp inline of the harness. Can't find one on the Passenger side near fire wall. If the fuse was bad, Would the B/U cam work ?

If you bought it through PayPal you can ask them to intervene as long as you didn't do friends and family.

If buying used, I would only buy from a recycler on car-parts.com. also, a 2017 does not have AA and car play. Should buy 2019 up to avoid the screen problem. Good luck.

Definitely a radio problem.

Replugged in my old 5" radio, it works like a charm.

No biggie, I paid less for the radio and bezel than I could find a bezel alone.

This is fact. AA and CP were not available till 2018 when Ram moved to the Panasonic radios.
